05/14/13: Cotton
Tail Is Trying To Get
Into The Rhythm Of
Living In A Home
Cotton Tail was living
in a temporary foster
home while she was
undergoing treatment for
her heartworms and
mange. Now that she has
recovered from her
medical issues, we have
moved her to another
foster home. She is
currently living with a
wonderful family who
have been diligently
working to get her
adjusted to life in a
home. She is thriving on
the attention but does
not like being left
alone. Although she has
perfect house manners
when people are with
her, she has accidents
in the house when she is
left by herself.
Cotton Tail is a
beautiful girl with a
kind heart who has been
treated poorly in her
past. Until Cotton Tail
becomes more secure that
she is not being
abandoned, she will need
a home with people who
are understanding;
someone should be home
with her most of the day
who can continue to work
on her separation
issues.
Below is
an update from Cotton
Tail's foster mom:
"We have been
working with Cotton Tail
on her separation. Very
slow process, especially
when you have to start
with only a few minutes
and work your way up
slowly. We are now up to
25 minutes of being
alone with no situation.
We even purchased a
Thunder Shirt but she is
the 20 percent that it
doesn’t seem to work on.
We introduced her slowly
to it making it a
positive thing for her.
She doesn’t mind wearing
it and will sit still
when you put it on. We
have definitely been
trying everything …the
shirt, herbal remedies,
diffusers and doing
things suggested by
people and the internet.
We leave her nice big
bones or yummy filled
Kongs and she does not
touch them when we
leave. FYI – she does
not go potty in the
house when we are home.
She just completed
her medication for hook
worms. We just need to
wait to have her fecal
tested to find out if it
was a success or not.
She definitely does not
like to take medication,
heck who does. She makes
a big stink out of it.
She has done well
with visitors at the
house. She loves to ride
in the car and will do
everything possible to
sneak into the front
passenger seat, even if
someone is sitting
there!
Even
though Keith is home
with her on most days
and she loves him, she
is my little shadow. She
always wants to be where
I am and will run around
looking for me when I am
in another room. Keith
indicates that she will
howl for at least a half
hour after I leave for
work.
She is more
playful with toys and
will throw a rope toy
around all by herself.
Before, we had to
initiate play but now
she does it all on her
own. Also, she is
definitely a kisser! She
tries to kiss everyone
she can.
We
found one thing that she
does not like at all…the
pencil sharpener! We
have the crank kind one
and when you turn the
crank to sharpen the
pencil she barks and
tries jumping at it.
It’s the weirdest thing.
It must sound like
something she didn’t
like in her past."

Was Used To Breed
Puppies Than Dumped
Cotton Tail is a sweet 2
year old female boxer
who was abandoned at an
overcrowded shelter with
her friend Wembley.
Cotton is a petite girl
who weighs 42.5 pounds.
Unfortunately she tested
positive for heartworm
and demodectic mange.
Both dogs were scheduled
to be killed and we
could not let that
happen.
Sadly we have no foster
homes for Cotton Tail or
any of the other dogs we
have been asked to help.
Cotton Tail and Wembley
are currently in a
boarding kennel where
they can only stay short
term.
We
are doing everything we
can to buy these dogs
some time and we are
desperate for your help.
If you have ever
considered fostering a
dog now is the time to
give it a try. The lives
of these dogs depend on
you…We cannot save them
without your assistance.
PLEASE HELP, yes we are
begging….These dogs need
you to live.
