01/17/13: Trinity
Has Lost Her Family
Twice Because Of the War
We were contacted by
a local shelter asking
for assistance with a
young boxer who was
brought to their
facility for the second
time in five months.
Trinity is only 14
months old. She first
entered the shelter
system when her
caretaker, who was in
the military, was
deployed to service.
Four months later she
was adopted by another
person in the military
and this soldier was
also deployed. Poor
Trinity has sadly, once
again, found herself
without a home.
Both of Trinity’s homes
told the shelter that
she was great with
everyone, including
children. However, after
being returned to the
shelter the second time,
the staff experienced
some resource guarding
of food and toys. This
behavior was not
previously seen by
either one of the
families. Never the
less, the shelter felt
that Trinity would do
best with people who
have boxer experience;
someone who can
recognize her cues so
they called us for help.
The shelter staff
worked with Trinity on
her resource guarding
and they said she is
incredibly smart and
very easy to work with.
She will trade easily
and they saw much
improvement while hand
feeding her. We sent one
of our very dog savvy
long-time volunteers to
meet Trinity at the
shelter before we picked
her up. She was showered
with tons of kisses and
Trinity actually sat in
her lap on the floor of
the shelter office. She
thought Trinity was very
cute and said she was
extremely affectionate
and had a nice
personality. Trinity
easily let her tug on a
toy while it was in her
mouth and it didn't
bother her. She was
surprised by how easily
she was able to enter
the somewhat small room.
Trinity was never
threatened by her
presence and was
genuinely happy for
attention and hugs and
kisses. Our volunteer
felt that Trinity will
make some person or some
family very happy.
We made arrangements
for Trinity to go to one
of our short term foster
homes and they have been
very impressed with her.
Here is their first
report:
“Trinity is awesome, the
best dog ever. I have
not seen any signs of
being possessive of her
food or her toys. I even
mixed up her food with
my hand while she was
eating and there were no
issues. I took away a
chew bone because it was
getting too soft, no
issues, and she as fine
when I wrestled with
her!!!!! She is so
happy, playful, and very
well behaved. She really
is a great dog.”
