11/08/04 - Mugsy is a beautiful boy that has become part of our family. When my husband and I took him in we had no idea how much we would be affected by his presence and love. Mugsy is a loyal, smart, and eager to please young boy. He wants nothing more than to be loved, which is why the decision my husband and I have made is so difficult. As of a month ago we were planning on adopting Mugsy. My husband and I live in a two-bedroom condo with another boxer, Molly. Originally we were looking to find Molly a companion and we found that and more in Mugsy. But to our surprise we found out this month that we are expecting twins. At first we thought we could we could juggle two dogs and two newborns. But as time has gone on we realize that Mugsy deserves more and that our decision to keep him would be a selfish one. We love Mugsy dearly, which is why his quality of life is so important to us. We want him to have a yard and a family that loves him. Mugsy is very athletic and is currently attending training/agility classes four times a week. He knows sit, down, off, come, heel, stay, up, and through. He does well with other pets (cats or dogs). And prefers to be around the lady dogs rather than the boys. Mugsy loves to eat and we have gone through a long process of finding just the right food for him. He will need to remain on what he is eating now and it can be found at a local pet superstore. The same goes for his treats. Mugsy would do best in a home that could provide a doggie door. He is 98% house trained, but with a doggie door he has no problems. Mugsy also sleeps in his crate and knows “get in your bed”. We are looking for a special family to open their arms to this beautiful boy. He is truly a man’s best friend, which is why we have to do what is best for him. 11/01/04 - Mugsy has been in his foster home for many many months now, and they were planning to keep him. But his foster mom is pregnant, and she just found out it will be twins. With 2 babies in a small place she has decided 2 dogs will be too much. Mugsy is back on the available list. His foster mom will send us an update as soon as she gets a chance. 6/1/04 Mugsy- This beautiful boy has truly taught my family and neighbors the healing power of love. With some good food, a warm bed, and one silly playmate to teach him the ropes, Mugsy has become a beautiful, happy, and loving young boy. He does very well with his morning routine of waking up, going outside, eating, playing, and going outside. He will sit at the door when it is time to go out and sit near his food bowl when it is time to eat. Mugsy does have a sensitive tummy and allergies but this has been easily treated with a good allergy formula dog food and all natural treats. He has learned to sit and lay down for his treats and is currently learning to stay. He has bright white teeth, which he maintains by having his teeth brushed and chewing bones. Mugsy would do best in a home where someone is there a lot of the time. He loves to follow me around wherever I go (currently he is laying down next to me at the computer). At 58 pounds, one of his favorite things to do is cuddle in bed with someone or sit on their lap. He also enjoys going for walks and spending time at the dog park. He does very well with other dogs. He is in wonderful shape and could run for hours. Mugsy has quickly learned to go to the neighbors house who gives him treats. They also have a cat, which Mugsy desperately wants to make friends with. He has interacted with cats and does wonderful . He is unaffected by the poking and pulling of young children and loves to play with older kids, 10 and up, who laugh at him when he runs circles. He loves his toys and his favorite game is keep away. After a couple of months in a warm and loving home Mugsy is no longer a boy with just a few boxer wiggles to give, he now has millions to give to a very special family. Loves: toys, ice cubes, treats, cuddling, kisses, outdoors, cats, other dogs, brushing his teeth, rubbing his ears, waking me up in the morning with kisses, sleeping in the same room as his foster mom, being called Mr. Mugsy, being groomed, doggy ice cream, and dancing. 09/03/03 - Mugsy Meet Mugsy. He’s an adorable 8-month-old fawn pup. His prior owners begged us to rescue him from a kill shelter they had left him in. It is apparent that he’s had little training, and they felt he was not good with their 2 yr old daughter. Without training and supervision, no dog is. He’ll need some time to recover from the stress. He has lost a lot of weight during his 20 days at the kill shelter, and then at the kennel. He is afraid of sudden noises and of items that are new to him, like umbrellas. (It’s been raining a lot! =). And we will not be placing him in a home with young children. He is about 95% housetrained, and will need obedience training once he is “settled” in his new home. Mugsy is very affectionate once he trusts you, and he loves to lie upside down along side of you, and get his tummy rubbed. He is a dominant puppy, a bit of a rascal, and currently fits in fine with my submissive 4 yr old male, and my dominant 8 yr old male who acts as the enforcer when Mugsy gets out of line. But as Mugsy gets older he should not live with another dominant dog. I have left him alone with the other two, for short periods, and he has been fine. He loves car rides and behaves very well in the car. As with most rescued dogs, Mugsy’s best home situation would be in a home where his new family would take their time with him and not let him get too excited for a while. A home where someone is home most of the time will help him regain his confidence. Mugsy is tall, all legs, and skin and bones at 42 lbs, and will probably grow to be about 70 lbs.
