2/23/04 Jimmy the Gentle Giant. Jimmy has received a clean bill of health from the Doc. He is now up to date on vaccines, tested negative for heart worm, and Lyme, has been neutered and is now ready for his new home. He has proven to be good with cats, allowing them to rub against him, all the dogs he has come in contact with, and has really become close with the vet techs that have been able to do anything at all with him. Jimmy would do great in a home that understands his need for a calm and predictable atmosphere. Lots of loud children will scare him half to death. More than one other dog in the home may be overwhelming to him.Although Jimmy is a big boy (85 + lbs.) he walks so slow and gentle on lead. He will make a wonderful best friend someday. 2/9/04 - Jimmy Jimmy is one of NBR’s newest additions. Like many of NBR’s babies his story is horrific, a common problem rescues all over the country face daily. Jimmy was born and raised a puppy mill dog, sentenced to live in one of many cages, kept in an unheated barn like livestock. With his mother, father, and siblings, they sit crouched tightly in cages just small enough for them to sit still. Barks and cries echo through the barn while waiting for their turn to be released from their cells just long enough to mate and be returned. At last the Amish farmer no longer had a use for Jimmy. He is one of the lucky ones....he has a chance to learn what a home and family life can be like. Sadly, his family remain in that barn waiting for their turn to be saved. A wonderful family paid to get Jimmy out. They were not allowed to see the other dogs, and begged to take Jimmy out of there. After offering the farmer money, they were able to bring him home. They fostered him while NBR was able to arrange for his transport. While in their home they realized the damage that was done to this poor boy. His soul was numb. He was terrified of every noise and movement. The tv, the noise of children in the house, a hand raised too quickly, all sent Jimmy to the floor in terror. Just 2 weeks into his stay, he learned to play with the other Boxers, was patient with the children, took food from your hand and even gave a couple of kisses. This boy still needs to learn how to wiggle like a Boxer. He needs to learn what it is like to sleep in bed with someone who loves him like he is the most wonderful Boxer boy in the world. He needs to trust that he will never be caged again, and learn that not all people are cruel and heartless. If you feel your home is a special one, ready and willing to take baby steps with this special boy, please fill out an application and email the volunteers at the bottom of the page.
