04/04/05 - Zeus is adopted!

03/13/05 - Zeus has had a rough couple of months.  In January his foster family moved to a new home which was stressful for Zeus.  He did not understand what was happening to his home.  After being in a kennel for so long before he came into rescue, Zeus no doubt worried that he would lose the comfort of a house.  Just as Zeus made the move to the new home, and was starting to settle in again, the senior female Boxer in the foster home was lost to cancer.  This was another unexpected change to his life, and once more his stress level rose.  When Zeus is feeling stressed he clings to his foster mom’s side, and does not want to be away from her.

One month after losing his foster sister, Zeus became sick.  He started vomiting and lost his appetite.  Normally Zeus is a very eager eater.  The next morning we brought Zeus to the vet.  We thought he might have eaten something he shouldn’t have because of the stress.  The vet did some x-rays and some blood work.  The results of the blood work the next morning showed that Zeus had a pancreatic attack.  This is a serious condition, and can result in death.  Zeus spent the next 4 days at the vet’s where he was given fluids, antibiotics, and placed on a special diet.

We went to visit Zeus while he was at the hospital.  He was always very happy to see us.  The staff said he was a perfect gentleman no matter what they did to him....never a complaint or a whine.  When we would get ready to leave, Zeus wanted to go with us.  He is a very family orientated dog, and just wants to be with his loved ones.  The day Zeus came home from the hospital his tail never stopped wagging.  His other foster sister was so happy to see him, and when Zeus came through the door she licked his face and happily jumped all over him.  The two were inseparable for days.

Zeus is still on a special diet and he is not happy having his food choices restricted.  He really misses his usual treats, and he still sits pretty and waits for those biscuits even though he can't have them yet (not allowed for 1 more week).  He is also waiting for his very own special family.  He has been waiting for a very long time.

Zeus is very loved by his foster family….he is a very sweet dog!  He gives all his love to you, no questions asked.  There must be a special person out there that can see past his age and graying hair.  Please consider giving him a permanent home.  You will never regret it.  The amount of love this guy has to give is immeasurable.

08/02/04 - Zeus has been with us now for 3 months. In that time we have grown to know and love him. Zeus is the gentleman of the household. He loves to sit in the laps of all the family members but he patiently waits for an invite up. Zeus is just a big goofy dog. His legs sometimes seem too long for his body. That's mostly when he's running around the yard with the other dogs. That's where the goofyness comes from, watching him run. I sometimes wonder if his legs are too long or theirs are too short.

Even though he is an older boy he still loves going for walks, riding in the car, visiting friends, lying in the sun and playing catch with a tennis ball. He doesn't like to chase it but loves to catch it when it is thrown to him. Then he gently drops it in your lap for another toss.

As for feeding time we choose to feed separately. Zeus has gotten better about protecting his food, but since we have another glutton in the family, everyone eats in their own space. Zeus works wonderfully with this concept. He goes to his spot and waits for his food.

Zeus still has some bald spots, but a great deal of fur has grown back. So much that friends have made comments of his beautiful brindle color. He does still itch often so we careful control the type of food and treats he has.

In the last few months we have learned that Zeus is good with other dogs, likes to chase cats (if given the chance) but not hurt them and would be best in a home with adults or teenage children. He seems to not care for young ones. We do not know why, but he is good with my 14 yo son and his friends.

I can tell you this big boy just wants a loving home to finish his life. He was missing his "mom" when he first came to us. His tail didn't wag, but he took to my lap the very first day. Now he wags that tail whenever he meets someone new.

Isn't there someone out there that would love to give this wonderful boy a home with the same loyalty and love he showed his "mom" for her life? I know that if my time came early I would be happier knowing that my faithful companion had a safe and loving home until his time to join me. Please consider opening your heart and home to Zeus. I can promise you it will be something you will never regret!

4/18/04 - Zeus

Zeus is a very stately 9 year old brindle male. He is 71 pounds - but will need to gain a good 10 pounds or so to get back up to a good weight

- needless to say - he is a BIG boy! He is house trained and gets along with everyone else he has met so far!

Zeus's "mom" passed away after a long stay in the hospital. While she was in the hospital this big boy stayed in a kennel - hoping his mom would get better. He needs someone to look past his age and wrinkles and give him lots of love for the rest of his time here!

You may notice in his pictures - Zeus has a bit of a hair loss problem - I know - not all of us women like our men balding - but it's not his fault - and I'm sure if he had it his way - there would be a fur club for boxers. His hair loss seems to be due to chronic allergies that had not been brought under control. We are now in the process of figuring out what exactly he needs to get through his allergy seasons itch free - though - his fur probably will not be growing back.

Zeus seems to get along well with the other dogs in his foster home though  he does like to let all the others know that his food is NOT to be messed with! This is easy to handle though - since his foster mom knows that the best way to handle that is to feed everyone in their own crates!

Zeus is a wonderful older gentlman and deserves a home that will love him for the rest of his days!
