King and Vaughan (my 7 year old) just spent 45 minutes playing football.  I am always amazed that King does not jump up on Vaughan or scratch him by accident.  He is such a bouncy and active dog yet so careful with my children.

Whoever adopts King will be a very lucky family indeed!!  I just watched as he attempted to get our miniature donkey to play chase with him.  That didn't work so he came in and sandwiched himself between our two other dogs on the sofa for a little nap.  After ten days, King is still a little too playful with our kitten so they have not yet become best friends.  Though I expect when King settles more they too will become friends because King does not have a mean bone in his body.  King loves his soft frisbee.  He watches my other dogs play tug and works very hard to get them to play chase.

King was rescued by the SPCA from being on a chain on a cement pad with no water or shelter.  He was underweight by twenty pounds and suffering from a major case of worms.  Due to starvation, King is human food focused and will go to great lengths to counter surf and open trash cans.  If King does manage to get food not intended for him, I put him out the door without attempting to take the food away as he is serious about keeping it is not wise to try with any new dog.  The behavior has subsided since his arrival as he is not diving in my cupboards when I open them now.

I do not recommend King as an apartment dog as he has a great deal of energy.  He makes full use of our yard.  He has not adjusted fully to sleeping in the house.  At bedtime, he thinks beds are to be jumped on, so we are still working on settling for the night.  King still needs lots of work in the potty training department.

My 7 and 4 year old boys love King and the feeling is mutual.  When they return from an activity, King rewards their return with a full body rub.  As energetic as he is, I am amazed that he has never jumped on them or knocked them down by accident.  He responds to them when they say "NO KING".  Of course, he also manages the full boxer pout.

For everything that King has experienced in his very short life of about a year, I am amazed at what a kind hearted and gentle natured dog he is in spite of all.  He will make a patient someone a very special pet.

7/12/04 - King

King is a 1 year 1 month old neutered male. He is a beautiful flashy brindle with natural ears and a natural tail! He was removed from a home by the SPCA because he was tied up outside without adequate shelter, food or water. He weighs 52 lbs and he is up to date on all of his shots and he is heartworm negative.

He was so excited to be leaving the shelter. He rolled around in the back of my truck on the way to the vet. He peeked his head up front and gave me kisses along the ride. When we waited in the vet's office, he climbed up and gave me hugs & kisses. The vet tech's absolutely LOVE him! He is a sweetie. He was not phased at all by the other dogs waiting to see the doctor!

I am not sure about cats or his housetraining skills. He is young and VERY playful!!

King is in need of a foster ASAP.
