2011 Memorial:

"Our sweet Maggie left us on the saddest of days... Sunday, September 11, 2011, at about eight years old. She came to me as an energetic bag of bones; 18 months old and only weighing 38 lbs. She had been neglected, isolated, misunderstood, and starved before NBR rescued her. Maggie really came to rescue me, after the devastating loss of my dear first Boxer, Jasmine, from cancer. Maggie and I set about being each other's support system. I helped her heal, body and spirit, as she healed my heart and soul. A year later, I met the wonderful man who would become my husband and Maggie's Dad. Mark has spent the last five years spoiling both of us rotten.

That Sunday morning we did what we always do on Sunday mornings. We got up early and took Maggie and our fifteen year old Lab Maxie to a nearby park where they could romp and run and swim. Maggie loved to swim alongside Maxie and return the retrieving toys we would throw into the pond for them. I think she thought she was a Lab too. When we returned to the car and dried them off, Maggie suddenly collapsed. We rushed her to a nearby vet where they heroically worked on her for almost half an hour before they told us she was gone. Boxer cardiomyopathy is what they called it - a heart attack. Now there is a giant hole in our hearts and lives that Maggie once filled.

When Maxie finally leaves us too, there will be two new rescue dogs in our lives. The love, the joy, the fierce loyalty that these dogs give cannot be matched or repaid in any way by those of us fortunate enough to share our lives with them. Those who believe they have had near-death experiences report being greeted on the other side by departed Moms or Dads or grandparents. I just hope Maggie and Jasmine and all my other doggies in heaven outrun everyone else to greet me first with wet kisses and wildly wagging tails. "

JULY 2009: LOOK At me now!

MAGGIES GOES ON VACATION, ... AGAIN!

"This time we went to the Florida panhandle; rented a beautiful pet-friendly house right on the Gulf of Mexico, last week of March and first week of April.  It was still a little chilly for us humans, but Maxie and Maggie didn't mind at all.  They swam like crazy everyday!  Maggie truly thinks she's a Lab.  Notice sea-dog Maggie wearing her life preserver on our rental boat.  She loves boating.  She is the most fun dog we've ever had.  We met a family on the beach who were into Boxer rescues in Florida.  The lady said to Maggie "Didn't you just fall into a bucket of love?".  I liked that, so I thought I'd pass it on to you in case you want to use it for the website.  Of course, Maggie and Maxie are our "buckets of love" and you could also say that Maggie and I fell into a bucket of love with Mark.  He just rented our next vacation house for the second and third weeks of October on the Outer Banks.  This one's quite a spread, but I'm not complaining.  Hope all is well with you. "

ggie.

5/28/05 -  Meet Maggie, a beautiful little boxer girl.  Maggie was surrendered by her family who felt she was not getting the time and attention she deserved.  This girl is a little beauty!  Full of love and energy.  She is wonderful with all three of our dogs, housebroken, and crate trained.  In her previous home, she was around children and cats and had no problem with them.  So far, her favorite pastime is getting her belly rubbed. At the time of her surrender, she was diagnosed with an ear infection in both ears.  She is currently being treated for this.  No issues here, just a fantastic little boxer!
