6/15/05 - Rexy has been adopted!

6/9/05 - No longer accepting applications for Rexy

5/26/05 - Here is the scoop from Rexy's foster home:

"Rexy is about 75% house broken and seems to be working well on this. Rexy knows several commands such as down and sit. Rexy seems to have a very good appetite, and could stand to gain a few pounds. He is currently 42 pounds. Rexy is currently up to date on all his shots and was neutered on 5-18-05. He is recovering well.

Rexy's previous owners were apparently trying to breed him with pit bulls to make fighting dogs. Rexy's previous owners searched the Internet sites on how to crop his ears at home with scissors. Thankfully, they didn't get the chance to do this. We have noticed that one of Rexy's canine teeth is filed all the way down to the gum and capped, which may be so that he could have been used as bait for pit bull fights, but we are not sure about that, yet. Thanks to Joy, the trainer in MD, Rexy was saved from the pain and suffering of this horrible life. Joy';s young son named Rexy, "T-Rex" because his owners had not even bothered to give him a name.

Rexy continues to be skittish at times, but has not shown any aggression.  Rex loves to cuddle on the couch, or in bed. He is very playful with the other dogs so far, although I think he has more energy than Gus and Farley can handle. Rex is diligently working on the house training, and I believe that he is just about there. He walks well on a leash, and stays close to the person walking him, even in our fenced in yard. Rex is a little cuddle bug and seems to be a delight. He has not yet encountered our cat, but the kitty hides most of the time. He is intrigued by the birds and just sat and stared at them for a good 10 minutes, then walked away. We haven't had him around any children yet, but will get more info when the situation arises.  Joy would have loved to have kept him, but due to her 14 year old Lab, 12 year old dachshund, and 8 year old boxer, and an upcoming move, Joy's family just could not keep him. Thank you Joy and your family for the love your gave Rex. I'm sure you will always have a special place in his heart. Thanks."

5/20/05 -

We want to send a special thanks to Joy and Jocelyn for rescuing Rexy from a cruel and inhumane situation.

Rexy was being kept in a crate for 16 hours a day and when released from this miserable confinement he was hit repeatedly with a shoe. Rexy's intended fate was to be bred with a pit bull for the purpose of fighting. He had so little value to these people that they never even gave him a name.

He is understandably a bit nervous at first with strangers, however, he has responded quickly to kindness.

He is currently at our vet's being neutered and will be updated on all inoculations.

A report from his foster mom and dad will be posted soon.
