10/22/06 - Layla has been adopted!

6/11/06 -

Layla is a sweet senior boxer that we rescued as soon as we got the call from the shelter.  The shelter was full and they were being faced with the decision to end Layla’s life if we did not take her into rescue.  She is a wonderful dog and we are thrilled we had the opportunity to save her life.

Layla is a total sweetheart and so far there has not been much of a transition period in her foster home.  She made herself at home within the first 1/2 hour of being there. She is eating well, has a cozy bed, and fell in love with the 8 year old daughter in the house.  When the girl goes out to play, Layla stands at the door waiting for her to come back in.  She is a great dog and I'm certain the people who adopt her will feel very lucky to have her in their life.

Below is a report from Layla in her foster home:

"Hi", I'm Layla.  At least that is what they've been calling me since I was picked up on the side of a busy highway in New York.  I was taken to an overcrowded shelter and I stayed there for a while before this very kind lady came to pick me up…."wow" am I glad she did, because I don't know what would have happened to me next!!!  We had a very long car ride home, not too sure but the lady kept talking & talking and it seemed like we kept passing the same things over & over.  I hate to say it but I think she was lost!

Its all gravy now because when we arrived there was a sweet young girl, that hugged me & kissed me, it was like she knew me my whole life.  There was also a very charming Pug doggie friend to keep me company during our down time.  Puggy & I have been busy when our sweet new family is away.  The first day she left me a big box of cereal and I ate every bit of it, because you know food was scarce there for a while.  Then a few days later she left me a barrel of cheez balls, can you even believe it?

I love that lady, when she is home we go for walks, she cooks me dinner, she also loves to tickle me & it makes me hop around like a little bunny!  I have a great time waking up my new girl in the morning by stepping on her & smelling her hair, "Ooooo" it smells so good, I even sleep with her sometimes she's very cozy.  They shortened my name to "LiLi" it makes me wag my little tail so hard I love it!  Life is grand!
