Success After A Long Recuperation
More than 8 weeks have passed since Chico first came into rescue. It was a long recuperation,
and touch and go at times, but Chico is now fully recovered and has been given an “A-OK” from
the doctors. The latest xrays of his pelvis look good which allows Chico to have unrestricted
activity.
Chico was neutered and at the same time the doctors repaired an old injury to his eyelid while he
was under anesthesia. He is a very happy boy and is ready to be adopted.
We are honored that we had the opportunity to save his life. Thank you to everyone who cared
about his welfare. Chico is another happy success story.
12/20/05 - Prayers Have Been Answered
We would like to thank all of you who kept Chico in your thoughts and prayers. Chico has
recovered from his pancreatitis, his pelvis is healing, and he is now in a foster home.
Once Chico was well enough for the doctors to thoroughly address his broken pelvis, the orthopedic
surgeon decided that it would be best for Chico not to have surgery. The doctor felt that Chico
would heal on his own, and that nothing would be gained by putting him through the operation.
Chico will still need to have restricted activity for 6 to 8 weeks (the same as if he had surgery),
and he is being kept on oral pain medication to help with the discomfort. Once he is feeling
better he will be neutered.
Chico made many friends while at the hospital…he was such a wonderful patient! We are ever so
grateful that he survived!!!
FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE - HE NEEDS YOUR PRAYERS 12/20/05 - Chico is an incredibly sweet 11 month old Boxer that was hit by a car. His family opted to have him euthanized because they said they could not afford the medical bills. The emergency hospital that Chico was brought to after he was injured called to ask if we would be willing to take over his care. Needless to say we did not hesitate to say yes. Chico’s pelvis was fractured in multiple places on impact. When his condition was stabilized the compassionate veterinarian from the hospital drove several hours to meet us so we could transfer him to the Tufts University medical center where we arranged for him to be seen by an orthopedic specialist. Unfortunately the doctors just discovered that Chico’s pancreas was injured when he was hit and he has developed traumatic pancreatitis which is life threatening. Chico has been in intensive care and is fighting to stay alive. His pain is being managed with IV medication, and the doctors are doing everything they can. Chico is a very sick boy and he will need all of our prayers to survive. Once he recovers from his pancreas issue he will still have to face extensive surgery to repair his shattered pelvis. Chico has a long road ahead of him but we are willing to be there with him every step of the way. We were given an estimate of $5,000 to put him back together. We will keep you updated as we learn more. Please keep Chico in your thoughts and prayers.
