Nash is a Name a Boxer dog!

Thank you Kate Guerin-Calvert for naming Nash: “My mom is an economist, and John Nash won the Nobel Prize for his work in economics, so I thought it would be a good name for a boxer to honor her with.”

Hi guys,

My name is Nash.  I'm not sure exactly how old I am (mostly because I can't count) but most people tell me they think I'm around 2 years old.  I've got all the fun loving spunk and spirit of a puppy with wise eyes of an old dog (that's what my foster mommy tells me at least).  I spent a while on the street and am thoroughly enjoying becoming a pampered house dog.

Apparently, I'm a brindle boxer.  I've got cropped ears and a docked tail.  I enjoy long walks (I'm learning not to pull), tennis balls (especially if someone is throwing them in an enclosed backyard) and a good game of rope tuggy with my foster boxer brother. I'm living with a couple of cats right now and I find them to be a challenge (they run too fast, are way too delicate, and their nails are too sharp for my liking).

I really love to eat.  I am eating two regular sized meals a day (once in the morning and once at night).  If I were given the opportunity, I would eat all day long.  My foster mommy won't let me though.  I am fed inside a dog crate so I don't eat all of my foster boxer brother's food as well.  I love doggy biscuits and puppy treats.

Lately, I have been learning some tricks.  I don't remember anyone ever teaching me any, so right now the going it slow.  I am learning how to sit on command and not to jump up on my family and visitors.  I have also learned to tell my family that I need to go outside to use the bathroom (I only had one accident the first night).  I can sleep quietly in my dog crate but given the opportunity I like to sleep on the floor or on a bed.

I'm looking for a family that loves doggy kisses, enjoys a good cuddle, and will give me belly rubs all the time.  Are you that family??!?!

Nash is an incredibly affectionate boxer who was picked up by animal control after roaming the city streets and survived by eatting garbage.  He remained at the shelter unclaimed by his family until we were asked to take him into rescue.  Obviously malnourished, his body had some infected old wounds that are responding well to treatment.  He is currently being boarded at an animal hospital because we have no available foster homes.

He is an extremely "touchy / feely, hands on kind of boy!!  He loves to hug everyone. He will literally stand up, put his paws around you, and bury his head in your chest...even more than the average Boxer!!  He'll be a real lap dog and snuggle-bug for sure with his new foster home and/or family!! T he staff at the animal hospital love him and they have been calling him “Hero” since he was picked up by animal control on September 11th.

Every day, at least twice, one of the vet tech’s makes it a point to walk him through the hospital and socialize him with the staff and people and he just loves everybody! He seems to like all other dogs too so far.  No sign of aggression at all, just wants to play.  They also walk daily through their cat ward and he's very interested in cats...sniffing and tail a wagging and try's to play with them too.

Our little hero Nash is also quite the chow hound!!  They have decreased his feeding from 4 small meals a day to 6 even smaller ones.  He's a gobbler and will eat until he pops if you're not careful.  However we are certain this behavior will diminish with time. He also insists on "walking himself" by putting the leash in his mouth while he is walked….silly boy.

Over all, Nash is doing great!!  Like every other dog in need of a home, he just wants and needs a few simple things in life like good food, fresh water, a warm bed and people to love, kiss and hug and spoil him rotten daily...he's just wonderful.
