George Is
Officially
Home
"Hi
my
name
is
Tami
and
I am
now
officially
Georgie's
new
Mom,
and
I am
so
proud
to
have
him!
I
decided
to
adopt
George
September,
2010
after
9
months
of
being
fostered
by
my
family
and
I.
I
went
and
picked
up
George
on
December
20,
2009.
We
all
wanted
George
to
be
in a
home
for the
Christmas
holiday. I
was
told
by
NBR
volunteer
Sue
that
George's
favorite thing
was
American
Cheese.
So,
of
course
what
did
I
bring
in
the
car
with
me?.......Lots
of
American
Cheese.
Sue
was
right!
I
fell
in
love
with
George
the
second
I
met
him.
He
was
nervous
as
would
be
expected
with
all
this
poor
little
boy
had
been
through.
He
was
very
quiet
on
the
3
hour
ride
home. The
second
he
got
out
of
my
Jeep
he
was
so
happy.
I
swear he
already
new
in
his
heart
he
had
found
his
forever
home
and
family.
I
have two
other
dogs
that
George
had
to
be
introduced
to and
they
needed
to
welcome
him
into
the
family
in
order
for
him
to
stay
with
us.
Caesar
my
Vizsla
welcomed
him
right
away.
Taylor
my white
Boxer had
a
bit
of a
hard
time
adapting
to
her
new
foster
brother.
She
wasn't
sure
what
to
make
of
him
and
caused
problems
in
the
beginning.
We
had
some
issues
to
resolve
but
we
worked
through
them
all.
Thanks
to
the
NBR
Volunteers
Debbie,
Christy
and
Jane.
Without
them
I
would
not
have
made
it.
I am
so
happy
to
say
that
George,
Taylor
and
Caesar
all
love
each
other
so
much
now.
George
has
come
such
a
long
way
in
our
family!
He
is
just
so
eager
to
please
and
all
he
wants
to
do
in
life
is
have
fun,
eat
and
sleep.
Don't'
we
all!
LOL!
Every
morning
when
I
wake
up,
all
the
dogs
are
so
tired
and
lazy
from
playing
out in
the
yard
and
going
on
their
walks
that
they
just
all
lay
in
bed. One
by
one
they
wake
up
and
come
up
into
the
kitchen
to
say
good
morning
to
their
mommy!
George
has
to
come
right
up
to
me
and
put
his
two
paws
on
my
shoulders
and
hugs
me.
It
brings
tears
to
my
eyes
everyday.
He
is
truly
thankful
for
his
new
life
and family and
I am
truly
thankful
for
my
new
four
legged son.
If
George
chooses
to
sleep
on
the
couch
at
night,
as
he
sometimes
does,
he
comes
into
the
bedroom
at
least
once
in
the
night
to
check
up
on
me and
make
sure
I am
still
there
and
didn't
leave.
He
walks over
to the
bed
(I
am a
very
light sleeper)
stares
at
me
till
I
wake
up
(no
lie)
and
I
say
'Hi
George'. We
give
each
other
a
kiss
and
off
he
goes
back
to
sleep
on
the
couch.
So
cute!
He
is
my
best
walker out
of
all
three
dogs!
He
has
learned
with
trust,
love
and
positive
reinforcement
that
people
are
good
and
they
do
not
want
to
hurt
him.
Especially
men!
George
had
a
fear
of
men,
especially
men
in
uniforms
or with
hats
on.
He
has
overcome
that
fear
and
now
has
learned
to
trust.
I
truly
have
never
looked
into
a
dog's
eyes
that
has
such
love
and
trust
in
someone.
He
knows
I
would
never
let
anyone
hurt
him
and
I
know
he
would
never
let
anyone
hurt
me.
The
bond
we
have
built
is
so
strong.
He
is
the
same
way
with
Taylor
and
Caesar.
He
constantly
watches
over
them
and
he
is
always
making
sure
we
are
all
happy
and
safe.
I
know
George
was
on
the Boxer
site
a
long
time
but
I
can
tell
you
from
the
bottom
of
my
heart
that
I am
the
lucky
one.
If
people
could
have
just met
George
in
person
and
could
see
the
heart
he
had
he
would
have
been adopted
long
before
now.
It
was
a
hard
road
for
George
but
I am
happy
he
endured
because I
have
the
best
and happiest
boy
ever!
In
fact
I
now
have
the
best
and
happiest
family
ever!
Thank
you
to
all
that
spent
time
with
George
when
he
was in
Boxer
Rescue .
Thank
you
to
all
that
took
him
in
and
gave
him
the
second
chance
he
so
deserved.
Without
all
of
you
he
would
never
be
here with
me."

New Pictures
and a update
from a
volunteer
who took
George home
for a
afternoon
"George took
his first
trip to the
country. He
had a great
afternoon.
He was a
little
apprehensive
at first,
but I took
it slow and
easy with
him and he
figured out
quickly that
he was safe
and it was
going to be
a good
experience.
He explored
the high
grass in the
field and
chased the
grasshoppers.
He spent
most of the
time rolling
in the grass
and then
took a walk
through the
woods.
He was
fascinated
with all the
new smells.
Every few
minutes he
would run
over to me
with lots of
Boxer
kisses. I
never saw a
more
appreciative
and happy
dog. Then he
would go
back to
eating and
rolling in
the grass.
I had him on
a long lead
but he never
went far or
took his
eyes off of
me.
We walked
over to the
other field,
because I
wanted him
to see the
horses.
He was very
interested
and didn’t
know what to
make of
them.
I wished I
had had a
camera to
take a
picture of
the look on
his face I
think he
thought they
were the
biggest dogs
he had ever
seen.
He started
to go under
the fence
and I said
“no” and he
came back
right away.
We went back
to the house
and he drank
water from
the hose,
came in and
met my
mother, and
had a peanut
butter kong.
Reluctantly
he got into
my car when
it was time
to go back
to the
kennel. We
had a
wonderful
day together
and he was a
great dog."
09/17/09:
An update
from our
volunteers:
"We went
to see
George last
week.
He was
so happy to
see us and
got excited.
George
has put some
needed
weight on
and it is
all muscle.
The girls at
the kennel
gave us an
excellent
report on
George.
They
said he was
a great,
happy Boxer
who got
along with
all the dogs
and staff.
No one
can believe
he hasn’t
found his
forever home
yet.
Even though George is
a good dog,
the
transition
into a home
will now be
a big
adjustment
for him
because he
has been at
the kennel
for 9 months
and it is
all he knows
as a home.
So we
are looking
for a home
that
understands
the breed
and rescue
dogs, and
how hard
this change
could be for
him.
With
just a
little time
and
understanding,
George will
become your
loyal and
faithful
companion,
for the rest
of his life."
Below is
what the
workers at
the kennel
wrote about
him:
GEORGE
2 year old,
neutered
male - Good
with both
people and
dogs
George is a
very
energetic,
playful boy.
He
has one of
the sweetest
dispositions
but
sometimes
his energy
gets the
best of him
in a playful
manner.
George gets
attached
very easily
to people
and is a
staff
favorite
here.
He
really
enjoys fetch
and tug of
war.
Per
previous
foster
George is a
big snuggler
on the couch
after a day
of day care.

STILL
LOOKING FOR
A FOSTER OR
FOREVER
HOME...
Below is
an update
from George:
|
"I know there has been some interest in me and I appreciate that. The thing is, and please, do not take this personally, but I have not chosen you. In the big picture it would not work out. People are very well intentioned, however, I am looking for a lifetime commitment not a week or two.
I need someone who will work through the ruff times..(oops, I meant rough). Mainly, I need you to have common sense. A person who has experience with a smart sometimes dominant kinda guy. Don’t get me wrong, I am not what you call aggressive but I can make you think I have ulterior motives.
You need to be one step ahead of me; smart enough to work with me and distract me onto better things. I think people just don’t understand that I have needs too. I am a good looking dog but there is more behind my pretty physique. I like the people at doggie daycare but realistically I am in a cage every day at bedtime, alone ...
I would love to get the heck out of Dodge but I am not taking any more chances on people who think they have what it takes. I need a real commitment. I know you‘re out there... Sincerely, George"

FOSTER HOME
NEEDED
A Volunteer's Recent Visit to see George:
"We went up to see George on Mother’s Day. He was so happy to see us. He did the Boxer wiggle dance and got so excited that he did do a little jumping up but it stopped when we told him to sit for a treat. We really couldn’t blame him since it had been a while since we had gone up to see him. He was thrileld to have company. After that initial meeting it was all uphill. He loves to play fetch and will bring the ball back to you and drop it. He knows his name and will come when called.
We took him out for a walk and he is very good on leash. He doesn’t pull at all. He went by the resident cat twice. He was curious but didn’t even pull on the leash. As we were walking, someone walked down the street and he just took a look and kept on walking. The people at the doggie day care told us that George gets along with all the dogs and as most Boxers do, he has his special friends.
George is patiently waiting for that special home and a family to love.George still needs a fenced yard and ideally someone home for the better part of the day and/or he needs to go to doggie day care. He is an active boy and requires an outlet for his energy. As long as his needs are met he will be an awesome companion!"

FOSTER HOME
NEEDED
|
Below is the latest update on George:
Two NBR volunteers went to the kennel to spend some time with George this past weekend. He seemed very happy to see familiar faces. He definitely enjoyed the one on one attention. He loves and craves attention.
George likes to play fetch and he even knows to bring the ball back to you. The volunteers also took him for a long walk and were impressed how well he walked on a leash.
George needs a lot of exercise and enjoys doggie daycare. He will need a fenced yard (not an invisible fence) and a family that can enjoy his exuberance. George is a great dog and all he wants to do is please people.
George is a favorite of the staff at the kennel, and they give him extra special attention, but it is still not a home. He is being patient while he waits for someone to make him their forever canine companion.

FOSTER HOME
NEEDED
|
George was living in a foster home and, after two weeks in a new environment, he settled in nicely and was doing well. He was attending doggie daycare during the work week and no longer needed to be crated when alone at home.
Unfortunately, George’s foster sister Enya became very ill. We felt it was in Enya’s best interest to move George so that Enya’s mom could concentrate on her medical care. George is now being boarded at the doggie daycare. He is once again in need of a foster home.
George is a big strong boy who needs exercise, exercise, and more exercise (running, playing, and walking). He requires a home with people who have experienced a dog with a high stress level which is often evident in dogs who come into rescue. They also must have patience, and knowledge of positive reinforcement training.
George is a smart boy and, not unlike most boxers, can be stubborn at times. It will take him some time to settle in at first but, once he has a routine down, he does great.
We would prefer to place George in a home that will continue doggie daycare…he really likes it. He will need an adult home only, and a fenced yard is a plus.
George will be your faithful companion once he finds his “forever home.” |

George has been going to doggie daycare for a few weeks and doing well. Tom is George‘s caretaker at the facility so I thought I would ask his input regarding what type of home would best suit his needs.
Tom’s observation is that George is very interactive with other male and female dogs. As for cats; he will sometimes show an interest by reaching out with his paw, although he does not hurt them, yet other times there is no reaction whatsoever.
He has taken George on a little trip to a supermarket and George met a lot of people. Tom did, however, have some treats (cheese) to give to the people George was meeting. George passed with flying colors. George would do best with an active family since he does need a lot of exercise and a lot of attention. He needs someone that is patient and willing to teach George some basic training along with some manners . He walks well with a gentle-lead harness. When he gets excited he will jump up on you and try to kiss your face. George is a big strong boy.
I realize that Tom is crazy about George and that he may be a little bias (he told me that if he didn’t have 3 dogs already and live in an apartment he would take George in a minute).
George has won the hearts of everyone up at doggie daycare. Once he gets to know you he will love you.

1/25/09:
“George has seemed to settle down with a routine. He is starting to feel safe and is a real sweetie. He loves to cuddle on the couch or in bed; with or without you. He will, however, steal your seat when you get up. Right now he is going to doggie day care and I have received good reports. He does well with others at daycare but I think that maybe he would do best as an only dog. I feel that he wants to be #1. He is not destructive at all. He just takes all the toys out of his basket and plays with them. At doggie day care he walks passed the cat with no reaction, however, the cat is dog savvy and stands her ground.
George really needs his forever home. He is shy at first but then will shower you with hugs and kisses.
I feel that George needs someone with Boxer experience and a soft touch.”

LUCKY LUCKY
GEORGE
George was
found
wandering
the streets
and
impounded by
animal
control
for the
mandatory 7
days. When
he was not
claimed by
his “owner“,
animal
control
brought him
to a
veterinarian
to be
killed.
Luckily for
George, two
compassionate
woman who
work at the
vet hospital
where George
was brought
to die
intervened.
They were
only given
until the
end of the
day to find
him a place
to go and
frantically
called
everywhere
looking for
assistance.
When we
received the
call we
immediately
agreed to
take George
not knowing
where he
would go,
but we could
not let him
die. We
were able to
find him
temporary
placement
for a few
days. One
of the woman
from the
hospital
happily
drove George
to meet us
…. he was
finally
safe.
George met
his
temporary
foster mom
with boxer
wiggles,
even though
it was
apparent
that he was
very
stressed.
He promptly
hopped into
the backseat
of the car
and placed
his head in
the lap of
one of our
volunteers.
George is a
young boxer,
no more than
two years of
age. He was
extremely
anxious when
he arrived
which is
understandable
considering
what he had
been
through.
Happily,
every day he
is becoming
more and
more
trusting.
He is
initially
frightened
in strange
surroundings
but appears
to recover
quickly when
he is
treated
kindly. We
suspect
someone has
handled him
very harshly
in the
past. We
will learn
more as we
get to know
him.
We have
taken George
to our vet
for an exam
and he was
given
inoculations.
He was
heartworm
negative and
appears to
be in good
health,
however, he
had
roundworm
parasites
which we had
treated of
course. We
also had him
neutered.
George is
currently in
a boarding
situation
where he is
enjoying
playing with
other dogs
in doggie
daycare. So
far he is
doing very
well, but we
are hoping
to find him
a foster
home soon.
He is a
handsome
boxer….his
photos do
not do him
justice.
George is a
lucky lucky
boy and we
are grateful
that he made
it to
rescue.
