SNEAKERS is a Name A Boxer dog

Thank you to the Aardsmas‘ for naming Sneakers.

“Sneakers was a beloved friend of ours. She had a great, long life. She made us believe again in the greatness of dogs. We want to pass he name along because of her nurturing spirit. We all loved her so much.”

05/08/09:  SNEAKERS’ TRANSFORMATION IS COMPLETE

We are happy to report that Sneaker’s eye surgery went without incident.  She was also spayed at the same time which has changed her future.  She will no longer be forced to produce puppies for the inhumane pet-trade.  She now continues to enjoy the good life she always deserved.

Latest update from Sneakers' foster mom:

“Pretty Miss Sneakers is doing fabulous since her surgery to correct her cherry eye.  The results are great and she is having a blast just being a doggie ( a new experience for her! )

She runs around like crazy with her young foster sibling which gives my senior boy, Louie, a chance to sit back and relax.  Sneaker’s doesn't put up with Louie sitting back for long and will entice him to join the fun for a few minutes at a time.

Sneakers’ house manners have improved significantly and she is being a very good girl.  She is a doll, and it is a real joy to be around her.”

04/09/10: EXPERIENCING THE GOOD LIFE

Sneakers has adjusted well to living in a home and is enjoying the kind of life she never experienced before coming into Rescue. Getting a warm bath, eating good food, playing at her leisure, and sleeping in a warm bed cuddled up with her foster family has obviously made her a happy dog.

Read what her foster mom has to say about Sneakers below:

“Sneakers is a wonderful girl.  She is starting to understand words.  The two she recognizes the best are “sit“ and “come“.  We are still working on the house training, but she is coming along nicely.

It is so great to watch Sneakers play or should I say, learn to play.  Running after her ball is her favorite past time.  I've also noticed she seems to prefer red toys.  She has a red stuffed toy and that is the 'chosen one' that she plays with constantly.

Sneakers gets along great with Louie my ten year old boxer boy.  Louie has been teaching her the boxer wiggle and now she is doing it on her own.

Another activity that Sneakers loves is doing laps in the yard, and Louie will try to time it so he can catch her without having to do much running himself.  (Momma didn't raise no fool!).  Overall she is a happy girl who loves to be around people.

She sleeps on the bed and doesn't try to push me off like Louie does; which is a nice change.  She is such a lovely girl!”

Sneakers awaits her appointment with the eye specialist at TUFTS in preparation for her eye surgery.

3/27/09: THE INJUSTICE NEVER ENDS

Twenty-two boxers were surrendered to a shelter and two of these boxers (Bootsi and Sneakers) came in with “Cherry Eye“.  Surgery is required to fix this eye condition which would not have been treated at the shelter.  We were asked if we could take both dogs into rescue, and we did not hesitate to agree.

Cherry eye is the term used for the prolapse of the gland of the third eyelid.  Known by veterinarians as the nictitans gland, this gland aids in the production of tears.  Surgical replacement of the gland in its proper location is the only acceptable treatment.

Neither Bootsi nor Sneakers are in very good condition, and they are extremely thin.  Their ears were infested with mites and both were covered in urine and feces stains; we had them examined by a vet when they first came into our rescue and they are both being treated with antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection.  They obviously were not well cared for and presumably came from another puppy mill-type situation.  Both dogs will also need to be spayed.

Overall they are very well adjusted, considering their previous conditions and lifestyle.  They seem to be excellent with other dogs and are friendly with people.  Like most boxers, they are great in the car.  It is apparent they have never lived in a home, therefore, we will be working on their house manners.

Sneakers and Bootsi are scheduled for a consult with an Ophthalmologist at Tufts Animal Hospital in early April.  We will update both dogs with individual reports from their foster homes once they have settled in and adjusted.  We are happy they are safe and receiving much needed attention.
