12/13/11: An update from Hoochie Poochie's foster family:

"Hoochie is the same. Perfect companion, super sweetie. His leg hasn't acted up since the last flare-up in August, so that is awesome. And, as you can see by the pic, he is extremely smart!

09/19/09: An update from Hoochie Poochie's foster family:
Why Senior Dogs are The Best

Hooch is such an awesome boy. He still has a lot of energy and spunk for a 10 year old. When he's not lounging, which is his #1 thing to do, he loves to play with tug toys. I think my arms are about 3 inches longer than before he lived here! He also likes to fetch but loses interest quickly. I think too much running bothers his leg. He's so patient, never nervous or anxious. Hoochie Poochie walks well on a leash and likes to take walks around the neighborhood.   An adult has to hold the leash though because if we encounter another dog, hold on!!

He is just a super buddy to hang out with. J

7/22/09: A Weekend Update:
"Hooch (AKA Hooch-ums or Hoochie Poochie) continues to do well here.   He is so cool and calm - except when he sees other dogs.  Most of our neighbors have dogs and he woofs at them through the windows or through the fence when he's outside.  One day he saw a dog taking a walk with his owner in the street and he pushed the screen out of the window!  So now we only open the windows about six inches.  So they weren't kidding when they said he doesn't get along with other dogs.

On Saturday we went to a party in Palmer (we didn't take him because there are two other dogs there) and he was home alone for seven hours and was SO glad to see us when we returned.  He may have thought we left him forever, poor guy.  Anyway, the house was exactly as we left it.   So I think it is safe to say he does not chew things or have accidents when left alone for extended periods."

07/11/09: A PRINCE OF A POOCH

Hoochie Poochie is a 10 year old male boxer who was brought into an animal hospital by his family to be euthanized.  Not for health reasons but because they said "he did not get along with other dogs"…. this after being with his family for 10 years.

It makes no sense in our mind to decide to kill a great dog because of a canine compatibility issue but that was their excuse.  We suspect there was more to the story and we are happy that the hospital did not agree to kill this wonderful soul.

Hoochie Poochie came into the hospital with Lyme’s disease for which he has been treated.  He weighs in at 65 lbs and appears to be in good health.  He bonded with one of the employees at the vet hospital.  Jack told us he would have adopted him in a heartbeat but he already has six dogs at home.  He had much praise for Hoochie Poochie.

The staff also told us, "he was good with children and also gets along with cats".  They would let him loose in the office when they were closed and he did well with the resident cats.

First update from Poochie’s Foster Family:

"The morning of the 4th of July we picked up Hoochie Poochie from the veterinary hospital where he was staying and we are so glad we did!  Although he was receiving excellent care at the hospital and lots of love (thanks, Jack!), I know he is enjoying his new foster home a lot.

The car ride home was over an hour long but he was super well behaved and just sat/laid on his bed the whole time.  He is an extremely sweet boy.  He is best described as an old gentleman.  He is a perfect companion as he loves to just lie on the floor near people.  Even at suppertime, he lies on the floor under the table and DOES NOT beg for food!

He knows a few basic commands - sit, lie down and stay.  He is awesome with our four kids who tire him out quickly.  He does have a slightly gimpy hind leg but that doesn't stop him from running around the backyard with the kids.  All in all, he is a prince of a pooch!

Here are a few pics.  By the way, his paperwork stated that his name is Hooch.  We did not care for it but he does respond to the name.  Actually the girls call him Hoochie Poochie.”
