We received an email
from a
Humane Society out of our area,
which we have worked with in the past,
regarding a three year old male boxer
named Haus. He had some medical
concerns that the shelter was unable to
address.
They reported that the
x-rays they took showed that Haus had
hip dysplasia and
spondylosis. Therefore he
was deemed unadoptable and would be
killed if we did not take him into
rescue. One look at his sad face
and we knew that we could not turn our
backs on him.
The shelter said Haus
was twice found roaming the streets.
He was never reported missing on either
occasion by his family, and the second
time his family never came to claim him.
Thankfully, we had
wonderful volunteers who were willing to
take time off from work and travel a
full day to transport Haus into the
safety of our foster program. A small
group of people working together as a
team to save the life of a dog is
inspirational. We can not thank them
enough.
Haus had been neutered
at the shelter and when our volunteer
first saw him it was obvious that he had
an infection from his recent surgery.
We have scheduled a vet appointment for
tomorrow morning so he can get his
initial exam, treatment for the
infection, as well as some medication
for his diarrhea (most likely caused by
the stress he has endured). We
also have copies of his radiographs for
our veterinarian to review.
The following is the
first report from his new foster home
after their long drive:
“Haus and I just got
home! He loved the car ride, even
though he was in a vehicle for 12+
hours, and he just has the sweetest
temperament.
We have not done
introductions with my girls, because our
street is unlit and it is already dark
out. So they are already in bed
and Haus is hanging out getting to know
my husband Bill. Haus has already
given me plenty of kisses, so hopefully
he warms up to Bill just as quickly.
He is SUPER skinny and
he has diarrhea. He also appears
to have an infection where he was
neutered because there is much swelling
and oozing from the incision site.
We have a vet appointment scheduled at
10:30 tomorrow morning so I will send an
update after his exam.
Haus has a face you
can’t resist and just a lovely
personality. Can’t wait to see his
full personality come out after he
adjusts. I will update everyone
tomorrow, plus pictures. I am
going to take a shower and then get Haus
settled for the night.”
