01/17/12: Sad News…
We
received a call from the
owner of Ava’s boarding
kennel with devastating
news. He had discovered Ava
dead when they went to greet
her at 6:30 in the morning.
She was curled up in her bed
as if she was peacefully
sleeping. Our only comfort
is knowing that Ava was
truly loved by the people
who cared for her and that
it was obvious she loved
them back. We are deeply
saddened.
Ava had a
story, prior to coming into
our rescue program. Like so
many other dogs in shelters,
she had to overcome the
“brand” that was placed by
her name. Ava was deemed
“aggressive” by the
shelter’s rules thus making
her “un-adoptable“. However,
the staff felt differently
and believed she did not
deserve to die and would be
a wonderful dog in the right
home. We agreed; Ava
deserved a chance.
Although Ava did not find a
home to call her own, we
have no regrets for taking
Ava into our rescue program
and we know that the end of
her life was spent in
comfort and care.
05/16/11: Ava still
needs your support ...
If you
are not a suitable home for
Ava but want to help,
please... consider making a
donation to help offset her
boarding costs while we
search for a home for Ava.
Ava is one of five dogs who
have no where to go and at
this time our only option is
to board them. While this
isn't ideal its safe and
they are well cared for.
Having to pay boarding fees
takes away from our ability
to help other dogs who may
need medical care and are
waiting to come into rescue.
Please consider making a
donation to help offset the
boarding costs for these 5
dogs.

03/07/11: I STILL NEED
YOU!, Please read about me
and if were a match please
apply!
01/02/11: We
hope someone will give this
boxer girl a new start this
new year.
Ava is still at
the boarding facility -
sad but true. The right
family just has not come
along for her. She
needs a real special,
quiet, patient
home without dogs, cats
or kids. A fenced yard
would be important too.
Honestly, there
hasn't been much
interest in Ava. Her
caregivers at the kennel
love her very much ...
she is a GREAT one on
one dog.
Ava just needs a
chance.
09/17/10:
The Value of Life,
The Plea for
Benevolence, The
Necessity of
Compassion
NBR
currently
has 4 dogs
who are
living in
boarding
kennels.....Ava, Rock,
Wilco,
and Tuck.
Sadly, we
have not
found
appropriate
foster or
permanent
homes for
them.. The
most
disheartening
thing about
this
situation is
that all of
these dogs
have the
potential to
be wonderful
dogs, but
they can not
seem to get
a break.
They have
all been
mishandled
by people
and because
of this they
are now
considered
"hard to
place".
These dogs
have trust
issues
because
people have
let them
down and NBR
is committed
to
rectifying
the wrongs
that have
been done to
them. We
are looking
for people
to foster or
adopt
who genuinely
want to help
a dog in the
truest sense
of the
word.
Please do
not consider
taking any
of these
dogs into
your home if
you have a
big ego or
if you are
not tolerant
enough to
allow the
dogs to
adjust at
their own
pace. These
dogs need
someone who
understands
that their
adjustment
period could
be long, and
they will
need kind
people who
have lots of
patience.
Some of
these dogs
have been in
a foster
home
previously
but they
"failed'
because the
people (who
had good
intentions)
did not
comprehend
the
commitment
needed of
them. Every
time these
dogs have a
change they
are set back
in their
progress so
we are being
very
cautious
about
choosing
homes for
them. NBR
will provide
as much
moral
support as
you need.
We have been
very
successful
turning dogs
such as
these around
and you will
need to be
able to
trust our
recommendations
and follow
our lead.
Ava, Rock, Wilco,
and Tuck all
have much
love to
give, but
they will
expect you
to earn
their
trust. They
will no
doubt teach
you more
about dog
behavior
then you
will ever
learn in a
book, and
you may
learn much
about
yourself and
other people
as well.
Once you
earn their
trust you
will be
blessed with
a companion
who will
truly
be your best
friend
forever, and
you will be
rewarded
with the
satisfaction
that you
truly made a
difference
in a needy
dog's life.
Unfortunately boarding
costs are
expensive
and they
are draining
our bank
account.
If you
cannot help
us by taking
one of these
dogs into
your home,
please help
pay for
their
expenses
until
suitable
placements
can be
found.
Every one of
these dogs
would have
been killed
if NBR did
not take
them into
our rescue
program. We
feel that
all of their
lives have
meaning and
we are proud
that we
saved
them. You
can share in
that pride
by doing
whatever you
can to help.

08/04/10:
Please help offset my
costs as I am being
boarded until the right
foster home comes along
for me; I need a really
special home (patient,
quiet, loving, fenced
yard). I am only one of
several dogs being
boarded and the bills
are climbing preventing
NBR from being able to
help other dogs in need.
You may not be the right
home however please
consider sponsoring
me...
01/24/10:
Ava
Requires A Gentle HandWe
received a call from a
local shelter asking for
our assistance.
Ava was found as a
stray, wandering the
streets, and was being
held by
animal control.
No one had come forward
to claim her, and her
mandatory ten day hold
had expired.
The
shelter felt they could
not place Ava since she
was dog aggressive and
did not like to be
forced to go into her
kennel. Despite these
two issues the shelter
staff felt she was a
wonderful dog who had a
lot of potential in the
right hands.
Ava is
a great dog , however,
you need a soft hand
with her. You can
not take a forceful
approach to make her do
something or she will
react defensively.
Luckily she is very
treat motivated and will
gladly follow direction
if asked nicely.
She also cannot be
placed with other dogs.
She
loves going for walks
and is very polite on
lead. A fenced
yard is a necessity for
her (underground fencing
will not be considered).
She would do well with
someone home for the
better part of the day
so they can give her
lots of attention.
Our
guesstimate is that Ava
is four years old and
she is definitely very
intelligent. We
will not place her with
children since we have
no previous history with
them. She is
spayed and up-to-date on
vaccines, is very clean
at the kennel, and is
quiet unless she is in
the presence of another
dog.
We are
looking for a dog savvy
home with a person who
has experience with
positive training
techniques such as
clicker training. Ava
wants to please and will
be devoted to the person
she trusts. She
needs you. Are you
willing to give Ava a
chance?
12/12/09:
More information coming
soon. Ava is currently
being boarded at a
Kennel and could use
your financial support
to help cover her expenses.
