03/21/11:  SCARLET IS ADOPTED !!!!!!!!!

02/11/11:Thumbs Up For Scarlet

Scarlet is looking good and has recovered enough to be adopted. Below is the latest report from Scarlet's foster mom:

"Scarlet went to see the Doc today. He and his staff were very impressed with the progress she has made. The Demodex mange is just about gone and she will remain on meds for another 2 weeks. Her coat is growing back nicely, with just a couple of spots that may take a bit longer. Scarlet will need to stay on Revolution as a precaution. The topical treatment is given once a month to kill fleas and other parasites. You can purchase this at most Veterinarians offices =)

Scarlet is weighing in at a healthy 47lbs and LOVES her meals and treats. She is currently eating twice a day. She loves people of all ages. Although she is extremely gentle, she does do the happy dance (jumping) and would be best in a home with children over the age of 10. Scarlet would prefer a fenced in yard and / or a very active family, that will walk and run her regularly to work off her puppy energy.

She loves to end her day by snuggling, (laying all over you with her head buried in your neck) and sleeps through the night. She has become a very happy, energetic, playful pup and has a lot of love to share.

Scarlet plays with our dog, but like many young boxers can be a bit overbearing .. she might be best as the only pet in your household. She is very young, eager to learn and please.

Scarlet is ready to find her perfect forever home...are you ready to open your heart to this sweetie?"

02/01/11: Scarlet Is Getting Better Every Day

Scarlet is still recovering from mange but she is completely free of the other maladies that plagued her when she arrived.  Her last skin scraping  from her doctor still showed live mites and she will be going back to the vet again next Monday to check her progress.

Below is a report from Scarlet's foster mom:

"Scarlet is doing fantastic!  She is really growing; she has gained 7lbs, her ear infections have cleared up and she no longer has tapeworm.  She is still being treated with medication for the mange and getting her medicated baths.  Her skin and coat are really looking great, nice and clean and dry.  Her hair is beginning to grow back as well.

You can tell she is feeling much better as her fun Boxer personality is really shining through.  She is starting to show her true colors and be a crazy Boxer pup, lots of laughs and will get into mischief any chance she gets!  She is very very smart, picking things up ever so quickly.  She knows her basic commands, gives you her paw, and is now completely housebroken.

Her favorite toy is a Kong with peanut butter, but she also likes to chase balls.  She still tends to jump to greet people like most boxers, and likes to counter surf (we are working on this one).  Scarlet loves to ride in the car and does OK on a leash.  She tends to pull a bit, but this can be corrected in due time.  Now that she is feeling better she's in a rush, as she has places to go and people too see.

Scarlet is getting very jealous of our dog when it comes to giving him attention, so she would probably do best as the only dog in your home.  She is truly an amazing little sweetheart, deserves all of the attention, and will reward you with lots of love and laughter."

01/05/2011: A Southern Belle
Scarlet was on the “urgent list” in a shelter down South.  Although she was out of our area, we could not let her die.  Nobody responded to her needs because she had démodéctic mange.  We felt we were her only hope.

The shelter told us that she came in as a stray…we have no background about Scarlet so we will not be placing her with children.

We arranged for her transport and she was met by one of our volunteers at 4 AM when she arrived.  Scarlet then went to her foster home to get some much needed rest. The next day she went to the vet for an exam where the doctor confirmed the diagnosis for mange with a scraping of her skin.  She also had tapeworm, was covered in fleas and also had an ear infection.  However, there was a plus with the many tests they took…she was heartworm negative.

Update from Scarlet’s Foster Mom:

“Meet Scarlet; a very loving and playful 7-9 month old Boxer pup. Scarlet is not feeling all that great, but she is still a very happy, curious and content little girl. Her eyes say, "I'm sad," but her wigglebutt and non stop tail wagging says...."when I feel good you'll see how much love I have to share and oh yeah, I will keep you laughing".

This little girl is just so so sweet...truly very precious. She is not timid or shy; her tail is wagging more and more by the minute. She LOVES to snuggle and falls asleep within minutes of being in your arms and then begins snoring, like it's nobody's business; she's even louder than my husband!

Scarlet currently weighs 38lbs and has an incredible appetite! We are feeding her 3x's a day for now, to help her gain some weight and keep up her strength. She loves treats and already knows how to sit. She also runs to any door she can find when she needs to go potty! Scarlet has been spayed and is up to date on vaccines.

Scarlet came to us with demodetic mange (non contagious) and is being treated w/ medication, antibiotics and medicated baths 3-5 x's per week. Scarlet is also being treated for two ear infections and tape worm.

This little sweetheart is your typical puppy. She will chew anything and will get into mischief when you turn your back. We crate her when left alone. Although she doesn't like it, she is getting more comfortable with it. She loves other dogs, only wanting to play. She is great with people of all ages, except she likes to jump up to greet. We are working on this.

We can't wait until this little cutie is feeling much better so that we can see her warm, loving personality collide with the crazy antics of a healthy Boxer pup. She will be an amazing addition to the right family.”
