04/29/11: LUCKY BOY -
ADOPTED !!!!!!!
04/19/11: “No

Cooper is
Re"Cooper"ating
Cooper came from a
family who had kept him
outside after he
developed demodex mange.
They did not want to
spend the money to treat
his condition. Their
decision was either
“place him” or euthanize
him.
They decided
to contact NBR.
According to the
surrender paperwork we
received, Cooper was
purchased from a
backyard breeder at only
six weeks old! Cooper
lived with seven
children … ages 1 year
through 15 years! He
lived outside in a dog
house through the winter
since he was diagnosed
with mange at Christmas
time. The yard had no
fence yet Cooper never
left home.
We
were told by the wife
that her husband had
scheduled an appointment
with the vet to have him
Cooper killed that
afternoon. His
reasoning…better weather
was around the corner
and he did not want his
kids to get reattached
to him when they were
outside playing.
We quickly made
arrangements to have
Cooper brought to a vet
hospital. They examined
Cooper and started him
on oral ivermectin for
the mange and
antibiotics for his
infected skin and eyes.
All reports indicated
Cooper is a wonderful
dog and he has proven to
be that and more.
A foster home was
available in NH and we
made the necessary
arrangements for his
long journey. Cooper was
living in KANSAS.
We want to thank
Sheri who coordinated
this three day epic
journey. We are forever
grateful to the many
generous volunteers who
traveled with Cooper,
housed him overnight,
and brought him safely
to his new foster home.
BELOW is an update
from Cooper’s Foster
Dad:
"We
picked up Cooper on the
last leg of his
transport from the
mid-west – a 3 day
marathon car trip. He
was exhausted when he
arrived and slept his
first day here. In the
time he has been here he
has settled in quickly
with with us and his 4
canine siblings.
He is a super friendly
puppy! He just loves
attention and responds
with boxer wiggles and
kisses. He is a typical
inquisitive 8-month old
boxer with lots of
energy.
We
noticed that he has some
old scars around his
neck area - I suppose
they could be scars from
his skin infection
aggravated by the metal
choke collar they
unfortunately had around
his neck. Anyway, he is
such a pleasant and easy
going guy....a pleasure
to have around!
His table manners are
really good – he
patiently waits for his
meal and hasn’t shown
any food aggression. In
fact, he isn’t
aggressive at all. He’s
getting along great with
everyone and plays
non-stop with our two
other rescue puppies.
His chest and belly
are pink from the
non-contagious demodex
mange but his condition
doesn’t slow him down.
He continues to take
medication for his
mange, plus we are
feeding him a high
protein quality dog
food. We are working on
getting him housebroken
and are starting to make
some progress - more to
follow on this in the
next update.
Cooper is just a
wonderful, friendly
boxer – he will make
some family very very
happy!"
03/21/11: More soon on
Cooper, he arrives to
his foster home this
friday.
03/19/11:
Need a foster home for
Cooper. He is coming in
on a transport and will
need to be in a home
that can continue his
rehabilitation,
treatment and care for
non-contagious demodex
mange. We are unsure how
he is with other dogs
however we were told he
likes to chase cats. All
in all he is a
sweetheart looking for
some TLC. Please
consider fostering this
poor soul.
