05/16/11: LUCY IS
ADOPTED !!!! 05/04/11:
Lucy Is All Fixed And
Ready To Go
Lucy’s leg has
healed from the first
surgery.
She returned to
the hospital to have her
second operation to
remove the pins from her
leg and to be spayed.
Below is an
update with details from
her foster mom.
“Sweet Lucy
was operated on last
Tuesday to remove the
pins in her leg, to be
spayed, and to add a
microchip.
Our fear is
that she may be a runner
since she was a stray,
though she hasn’t shown
any signs of that at
this point.
Lucy did
very well in these
latest surgeries and was
able to come home that
night.
Until her
stitches are taken out,
she is crate and
leash-bound once again.
The stitches
will be removed by the
vet soon and she will
hopefully get the OK to
play to her heart’s
content.
Since Lucy's
fracture was left
untreated for so long
before she came into
rescue, her leg will be
dis-figured and not
completely in alignment.
Luckily
she’ll be able to use it
fully with no
limitations on her
activity.
The surgeon
told me that he could
not get her bones back
to “normal” due to the
length of time between
when she was hit by the
car and the time he got
her.
Generally,
Lucy is a very happy
girl.
She loves
attention (like most
boxers!) and seems
attached to us already.
She is
enjoying her time with
our boxer boy Gordie,
although she and our
boxer girl Daisy are not
on such good terms.
Hopefully,
once Lucy is out of the
crate on a regular
basis, they’ll be able
to develop at least a
truce with one another.
Health-wise,
Lucy eats very well.
She has had
some loose stools, but a
fecal test showed she
does not have any
parasites.
This is
likely more
stress-related than a
health issue.
She is very
thin, though she has
gained a little weight
with us.
She has been
checked for heartworms
(none) and vaccinations
were made up to date."
03/27/2011: Lucy Is A
Lucky Little Girl
Lucy's surgery was
tougher than the doctor
had expected. They kept
her in the hospital for
a week after the
operation to make sure
there were no
complications. Luckily
all is well. When she
returned for her
follow-up visit the
doctor was amazed at her
recovery. She still
needs to be spayed which
will get done when she
returns to the hospital
to get the pins in her
leg removed. We want to
thank the people who
have sent donations to
help with the cost of
Lucy's medical care.
These donations have not
covered her expenses,
but every little bit
helps and we are
grateful.
Below
is a report from Lucy's
foster mom:
"Lucy has been with us
for a week now,
recuperating after her
surgery. She is getting
along great with her
foster brother, Gordie,
another 2 year old
boxer. Daisy, the 14
year old boxer (also
from Boxer Rescue) is
just not sure about her
yet, though Lucy is
trying to make friends!
Lucy is a
spunky, energetic
sweetheart. wants so
badly to play, run, and
jump, but she must still
be confined to a crate
or on a leash until her
leg heals. She has some
toys she can play with
by herself, but she
still wants to be free
to play. Soon we hope.
She had a follow up
visit with her surgeon,
yesterday. He says she
is healing very well
and, with any luck, she
will get the pins out in
2 weeks. She is a lucky
pup -- her youth is
leading to her healing
quickly."
03/14/11:
UPDATE...
We
are not receiving any
financial support for
poor Lucy, Please
consider donating for
her surgery.
03/09/11:
We Love Lucy....Surgery
Scheduled For Thursday
Lucy received her
evaluation from the
surgeon today and the
radiographs confirmed
that she will need
surgery to repair her
left front leg. Both her
ulna and radius bones
are fractured and the
bones are displaced.
Since the break was
directly above her ankle
joint the surgery will
be a little tricky. The
repair for this type of
fracture usually calls
for a plate and screws,
but a plate will not be
possible because it is
so close to the joint.
The operation is
scheduled for Thursday
and we will be posting
an update after we get
the doctor's report.
Lucy will be getting
bloodwork including a
heartworm test and her
inoculations. She will
also need to be spayed
when we get the go-ahead
from the doctor
(probably several weeks
from now). She is a
petite pretty little
girl weighing slightly
less than 45 pounds.
Below is the update
from our volunteer who
transported Lucy to the
hospital:
"Today I picked up Lucy
from the shelter and
when they brought her
out, she immediately ran
up to me and jumped up
to give me kisses.
Little Lucy is Super
Sweet, Very Cute, and
full of Boxer Wiggles!
It’s like she doesn’t
even know her little leg
is broken.
Lucy
did wonderful on the one
hour car ride to the
Veterinary Hospital. She
just sat there like she
knew that her Lucky Card
had been picked and she
was on the road to
finding her forever
home."
03/08/11: Poor
Lucy Is Lucky To Be
Alive
We
received a call from a
shelter asking if we
could take a very sweet
boxer with a broken leg.
Lucy somehow ended up
roaming the streets and
was hit by a car on
February 25. We were
told that after the
accident she was taken
to an emergency hospital
where she was stabilized
and then sent to the
shelter where she
remained for 10 days
until we got the call to
help.
We
immediately went into
action and arranged to
have one of our loyal
volunteers transport
Lucy to the hospital.
The doctors will be
taking a series of
radiographs to access
the damage to Lucy's
bones and will be giving
her an extensive
examination. We will
have more to report
after we hear back from
the doctor.
The
shelter was given an
estimate of $1,000 to
$3,000 to repair Lucy's
leg (which they said
they could not afford).
We once again are asking
for your support....this
time to help pay for
Lucy's surgery.
