05/29/2012: NILLY IS
ADOPTED!
02/07/12:
Nilly made every moment
of the recovery process
challenging. She
returned to the vet yet
another time and had to
have the incision
stapled shut. However,
in her defense being the
amount of skin and
tissue removed, the
location and that she is
a active puppy we
weathered quite well.
We received great
news that the growth was
negative too!
01/24/12: Waiting For
Biopsy Results
Nilly has been
developing well in her
foster home and
continues to be as
feisty as ever. On the
health front, she
recently had a lump that
appeared on her
shoulder. We watched it
carefully and
immediately took her to
the vet last week after
it rapidly tripled in
size. The doctor
scheduled her for
surgery the next day and
sent the mass out for
biopsy.
We had
to take Nilly back to
the hospital yesterday
to have the incision
repaired. The shoulder
is difficult to protect
when it is stitched and
the area started to
swell and drain fluid.
Warm compresses helped
the swelling but the
stitches tore apart.
Poor Nilly had to be
anesthetized once again.
This time around the
doctor used surgical
glue to repair the
underlying tissue and
re-sutured the skin
which will need to
remain in place for two
weeks.
Someone
will be with Nilly 24/7
for the next week to
monitor the "little
saucy devil". We have
fashioned a sling that
covers her shoulder so
her back leg can't make
direct contact with the
incision. We tried
putting a bootie on her
back foot as well
however she was quick to
remove it and made sure
it was destroyed. We
will report on the
biopsy results as soon
as we get the
news...which we hope and
pray is good.
11/29/11: An update from
Nilly's foster mom:
"Nilly was spayed
last week and continues
to heal nicely. We are
doing better with her
initial interactions
with other dogs by
socializing her as much
as possible. Nilly
continues in her
destructive puppy phase
and is a smart bugger
about it as well; we are
hoping this stage is
short lived. She
continues to be a
extremely active and
sassy soul and we are
enjoying (most) every
minute of it!"
10/03/11: So what if I'm
assertive!
An
update from her foster
mom...
"Nilly
is now just past 4
months old and is doing
excellent. Nilly is a
very smart little girl
whose wits get her into
trouble in a fun way.
She love to TP (toilet
paper) the house and
will go back until the
roll is gone and again
and again; we are
currently leaving the
roll empty. Nilly also
loves to go for rides in
car and will bounce up
and down until you pick
her up and put her in; I
am guessing its because
we spent the first two
weeks of her life
driving back across the
country and camping.
Nilly is
very active and still
has the energy to cause
mischief and try and
wake the other dogs long
after they spent several
hours playing with her
already - she will need
a very active and
interactive home. Nilly
is good with our cat but
also likes to harass him
at the same time so to
say it correctly "Our
cat is very tolerant of
Nilly!". Nilly will also
require a fenced yard,
when she starts to
wander she keeps going
and I have yet to find a
distraction technique.
Nilly is living with
three other dogs and if
she decides to do
something she is going
to do it with or without
them!
Nilly is very assertive
when meeting other dogs
since day one, while we
are working hard on her
socialization her
adopting family must be
willing to continue this
in a positive manner and
not put her into
situations she doesn't
feel comfortable;
Nilly's needs come
first!"
We
have a appointment to
get Nilly spayed in a
few weeks.
8/23/11: Silly, smart,
naughty, Nilly ....
Nilly came into rescue
at just over 4 weeks
old. Despite being taken
from her mother too,
too... young, she is a
healthy little girl who
isn't quite available
for adoption yet. Nilly
is now 10 weeks old and
will need to have all
her shots and be spayed
prior to being adopted.
She is currently living
with 3 other dogs and a
cat. Nilly's ideal
forever home will need
to be very active, have
other animals, home
primarily most of the
day, a commitment to
keeping her social, and
is Boxer savvy. Nilly is
currently sleeping on
furniture, in my bed
with me at night and in
one of our laps when we
are relaxing.
Nilly is a super smart
and sassy - more so then
any other 10 week old
puppy or young foster I
have ever had - she is
very tuned into her
surroundings and ornery
when she is over tired!
We are looking for a
home without small
children for Nilly.
