12/30/11: Eyes that melt your heart

Shelby is a amazing, beautiful girl who wants a home to call her own. Shelby is a lover of all people and will soak up any attention you have to give. Poor Shelby has spent the last few weeks in a boarding facility and we would love to find a matching home for her to move to soon... as would she! Shelby is a quick study and wants to please, share your lap and heart. Shelby has been spayed and recovered nicely, is Shelby a match for you?

12/21/11: Shelby Only Wants One Thing

Shelby is a real sweet girl who came a long way in her temporary foster home for a few weeks. When she first arrived she was having accidents and did not want to go outside. After a few days she was on a schedule, figured things out, and has been doing great ever since.

Shelby is a real big lover and wants to please. Her coat is amazingly dark and she is stunning. Shelby adores everyone she meets; she’s a real people boxer =) . We are working on her need to jump when she greets you. A lot of this behavior is because she is just so excited and loves attention from anyone she meets.

When she first arrived she had no idea what simple things meant, such as "sit". We have been working with her with positive reinforcement and treats; she is now sitting and acts so proud when she does it!

Shelby will need some work with her leash/walking skills, and will need to go to a home with a fenced yard. We expect that she had never been leashed in her life.

Shelby really only wants one thing and that is to be loved and make you happy. She is a very smart girl and, with some guidance love and consistency, she is going to be an amazing companion to whomever is lucky enough to adopt her.

Shelby was in heat when she first arrived. We have since made arrangements for her spay surgery and she is now recovering and doing well. She is currently being boarded and we are looking to get her back into a foster / home environment as soon as possible.

11/30/11: What On Earth Are Some People Thinking

FOSTER HOME NEEDED FOR SHELBY!

Chloe & Shelby and Jupiter & Milo are very fortunate to have come into our Rescue program. Chloe and Shelby are 2 year old sisters who were given to a mentally challenged woman with a mentality of a child in hopes that she could make money breeding the dogs and selling their puppies. Both dogs were bred and each of them had 9 puppies. Shelby's puppies all died. Chloe's puppies all survived only to have a questionable fate. Seven of these puppies were “sold” and placed into a variety of unsavory situations.

We received the call asking for help from a case worker who told us about the terrible conditions in which the dogs were being kept. At that time both adult dogs and four puppies were being kept together in a plastic vari-kennel (a dangerous situation to say the least). When the dogs were let loose in the house they had accidents on the floor; they were then scolded and spanked and the mess was not cleaned.

We agreed to take all six dogs and made arrangements to get them immediately. Sadly, the mother of the woman who had the dogs sold two of the remaining four puppies for $25 that same day. Jupiter and Milo were the lucky ones not to have been “picked”.

Thankfully all of the dogs are very sweet although they need some guidance in the manners department. They are friendly to people (all very loving) and good with other dogs. They were in good weight when they arrived but they were covered in fleas. All of them needed to be vetted; all of them need to be spayed/neutered before being adopted.

Chloe and Shelby are in separate foster homes. Chloe is doing well but Shelby needs a new foster home because she is not friendly towards cats. Jupiter and Milo are together in the same foster home and are thriving. We will never understand the thinking behind giving dogs to someone who did not have the capacity to care for them. Nor can we fathom how people can overlook the welfare of an animal for the sake of the almighty dollar.
