12/15/03 - Cody
Cody was probably wandering lost in
the woods for several weeks. We rescued him after seeing him raid our
trash to survive. My heart broke when I saw him, he was starved and
limping. Myself and the neighbor kids left him food and tried to befriend
him so we could get him the help he needed. It took about a week when
Alissa next door was able to put a leash on him. Jane from Boxer Rescue
was kind enough to come down and pick up Cody and get him the medical
attention that he needed. I had promised to foster him at that time.
Now months later, after his long stay at the veterinary hospital, Cody is
back with us for fostering. He was treated for heartworm, lymes disease,
recovered from a broken shoulder, neutered, and given all necessary
inoculations. What an incredible animal, all he wants to do is be loved.
He does seem to think he is a lapdog. If you are near him he must be
touching you and wants his belly rubbed. He walks very good on a leash to
go outside. We have tried introducing a runner and he doesn't quite grasp
the concept and is a little timid about it. When he first arrived he
wanted to stay downstairs with the woodstove, and I must add he loves to
be warm!! We left the crate open at all times.
Cody is adjusting well, he spends the nights upstairs now, although he
still enjoys laying on the couch near the woodstove. Since he arrived
Cody has had no accidents either at night or during the day. He loves
other dogs. Cody and our Beagle Gabby spend lots of time together, and
the two of them play and mostly lay on the couch. Cody is very submissive
around other animals and people.
Cody's temperament is wonderful! He is so loving and his eyes are his
mirrors to his soul, truly. He is very attached to my husband and visa
versa. He is one of the sweetest animals that I have ever known. If you
are looking for a true friend than Cody is the one for you.
