1/08/04 - Mocha

Mocha was picked up by one of our volunteers at a large shelter in NYC. Our volunteer will foster Mocha until we find her a forever home. Here is the report we got after the first day.

They called her Mocha, but I call her Sweetie.  She LOVES to just lay around and cuddle.  She never leaves my side.  She was very upset when I made her sleep in the crate last night -  she quiets down after a few minutes of whining.  She's a very strong girl.  She hasn't been well-trained on a leash.  Not the worse I've had, but she does her own thing with no consideration of where her walker is (or how fast/slow he's going).  I bought her a strong new collar and leash, and then we got a gentle leader to improve her walking skills.  She does much better with the leader.  She wants to greet every dog she sees, but it doesn't seem like she met many dogs in the past.  She's very clumsy with small dogs and knocks them around with her paws.  So far only friendly greetings. So far, she gets along with everyone she meets.  We haven't stopped for toddlers yet, and we haven't run into any cats yet, but she sure likes plastic bags blown by the wind.  I spoke to soon, just heard a cat meow outside the door, and she sprung to attention.  we'll see.  

She eats very well, and she stops when she's had enough.  As you can see from her photos, she's flashy fawn and in great physical shape.  I would guess she's about 55-60 pounds.
