A few things I can tell you so far about my short experience with Amigo... he is 100% boxer.. follows me everywhere (he is now at my feet)... I forget he is deaf. I only realize when my dog barks and he does not move at first ... but when she starts to run he follows, ... the best part is that he does not start barking too... And I find myself constantly talking to him... but if I want him to come I motion with my hands to come and he comes . If I want him to sit I walk up to him and raise my hand from his nose to his head and he sits... If he is sleeping or napping I tap his leg to wake him... .

He loves the car , he loves to play, etc. there is really not much difference. I think the most important thing is the other dog, and a fence of course, because god forbid he gets loose you cannot call him. Oh by the way you can get him a vibrating collar...

And I cant believe it but he is GREAT on a leash. The only thing I can think of is that maybe he does not pull as much as a hearing dog because he is not teased or taunted by all the sounds around, therefore more relaxed.

07/16/03 - Amigo

Here's Amigo.... I know I say this all the time but he has the CUTEST face I have ever seen, not to mention the softest fur.

Amigo is a special boy because he is deaf.. but don't worry, he doesn't know he is deaf and he is as happy as can be, he wiggles and knows sit and is extremely Attentive and affectionate. He is also GREAT on a leash and LOVES car rides and loves to play.

He is a young boy about one year old, he is about 65lbs and will probably be about 75lb full grown. He is being fostered with a female boxer and doing great.

Amigo was found wandering the streets of Ct with his mom CP (cutie pie, also posted) . They were brought to a CT shelter and lucky for them surrendered to rescue.

It would be wonderful to place CP and Amigo together, but we are happy to report they are both being fostered in separate homes and they are doing fine, in the absence of each other and with other boxers. Mom (CP) visited Amigo in his foster last night just to let him know things are ok. If we can not find a home together , they can be placed separately, but Amigo must be placed with another dog since he is used to following his moms lead and seems to be doing the same with his foster sister.
