Brandon
This handsome guy is Brandon; a male who was picked up by one of our area shelters. When Brandon first arrived, he was not socialized, and was fearful of situations where he was surprised, or confronted by a person he perceived as a threat.
We enrolled Brandon in training, and he’s been staying with a wonderful family while they work on his fears and teach him it’s not necessary for him to try to be the top dog in his canine/human relationships. His trainer had the following to say about his progress:
“… He is walking very well on leash without pulling (most of the time), has mellowed considerably about barking at things but did bark a few times tonight at a jogger. I was working him in the street and a very large man jogged by. Brandon held his ground, did not try to pull me but did bark. I corrected only once and he stopped!! Good boy!
”He is VERY VERY excited about rabbits. I learned that the hard way tonight. While I was working him a rabbit ran across the street. Brandon TOOK OFF LIKE LIGHTNING... Fortunately I was holding the leash properly and he did not get away from me... (phew!) I was totally caught off-guard... He holds a 15 second stay while I am at the end of a 6 foot leash very consistently. Even after he saw the rabbit I was able to have him hold a stay and he was very good. He was still very excited but held the command.
”I am very proud of him and can not wait until you see him again. You will think I changed dogs. Also I think he has gained at least 5 pounds. His ribs are barely visible and his spine and hip bones are completely covered with flesh. He looks great.
He is very good with all other dogs. He has been with 5 other dogs from my Bouvier to a very submissive Aussie mix and does well with everyone. Yes, he will need someone with some experience but not a professional. He just needs someone willing to spend the time learning the proper way to handle him. The adoptee will need to have several training lessons but otherwise he is fine. Yes, I still have a lot of work to do with him but might as well start looking for his home
asap…”
