Like Gracie, Vegas has gone to her new home. She is doing GREAT on 3 legs. Dogs are so lucky. They just don't think they have any limitations. Their spirits are high and life is good as long as they are warm, feed, and LOVED. We still are collecting for the medical bills on these 4 dogs. So far we have received about 1/2 of the money we spent. Thank you for your donations. They are GREATLY appreciated. 08/19/03 - Update Vegas was x-rayed and examined today. Let me try to explain what the orthopedic surgeon found. There are 2 bones in the front leg. Both had fractures. Unfortunately for Vegas her fractures were not fixed right after her injury. The breaks affected the growth plates in her leg. Vegas is only about 5 1/2 months old with a lot of growing to do. We were planning to repair her leg by straightening the crooked break. Vegas's x-rays showed her bone growth plate on one bone in the leg had prematurely closed. If one bone grows and the other does not the growing bone bows (bends). Because she is so young we can not lengthen this leg enough. The surgeon feels (and the other 2 veterinarians who consulted with the orthopedic surgeon) if we put external equipment on her leg and over months stretch the bones (a painful experience) she will end up with too much pressure in her elbow. Vegas's elbow will luxate (come slightly apart) and she will not be able to use the leg because of pain. If Vegas had surgery right after her injury she would have been fine. Sadly, because no one treated her she will now have to lose her front leg. 08/11/03 - Vegas This is Vegas. A charmingly sweet 5 month old female. She was found wondering the streets of Philadelphia, late at night in the poring rain. A nice fellow picked her up and brought her to a family who already had a boxer. This family soon discovered that Vegas had an old fracture on her front leg. They took her to the vet and consulted a surgeon. The specialist recommends having surgery as it appears that the bone was broken about 2 months ago and had healed improperly. In fact, Vegas was found with her splint still on her! She was malnourished and scared. The family has come to rescue to help find her a new forever home where she wont be left in the rain, hurting!
