11/09/04 - Update on Nora from her foster mom...

Nora is ready for adoption – in the short time that Nora has been in rescue; she has proven herself to be a typical young boxer girl.  She’s full of fun, very animated, always looking for a good time, and that tail never stops going.

We can’t imagine what terrible abuse was done to this puppy to warrant her initial fear of new things but in true boxer spirit, Nora is doing her best to overcome her fears.  When I first met Nora, she growled at me, telling me to ‘stay away – I’m afraid of you’.  I picked up her leash and we left the vet’s office – Nora belly low, me not too sure what I had just let myself in for.  The car ride home was uneventful, Nora ignored me, and I kept driving.

We got home and Nora met my 7-year-old boxer – she had more faith in him then she did me.  It took Nora about 15 minutes to settle down, to not belly low every time I stood up and of course, dinner was a welcome treat for her.  By the end of the first evening, Nora was up on the couch with me, loving belly rubs, and feeling more confident.  By the end of day 2, Nora showed her true colors – she is playful, happy, willing to explore new things with me by her side, and delighted that I allowed her to sleep in the bed with me.

From the minute we wake up in the morning, Nora is ready for life.  She loves to go for long walks, happily chews on a hard chew toy, and shakes the heck out of her stuffed animals.  She is fine during the workday, is housebroken and does not need a crate.  She walks very gently on lead and is very smart, knowing sit, stay, come, and she shakes hands!  She’s a bit annoying to the cat, but is looking to play with him, not hurt him.  And she gives me the biggest welcome home every single day

We’d love to see Nora go to a home that has another dog – she really enjoys the company of other dogs and she’s happy to allow another dog to feel like he’s king of the castle.  Because Nora has obviously been abused in the past, we will not place her with young children – she will still belly low when there are unexpected quick movements that young children are famous for.  Nora is looking for a home where she will feel safe and where her new people will help her forget her past abuse.  Nora is learning that people can be trusted -  she now understands that the love she gives will be returned.

Nora has proven to be a wonderfully playful little girl. She shares her toys nicely with anyone willing to play with her.  She loves to run and wrestle with other dogs, sniffs the cats, and kisses everybody who is willing to get down to her level.

Nora is still waiting to get into a foster or forever home.

This adorable little girl is Nora. She is fawn with natural ears and a natural tail! We believe she is between 6 - 8 months old. She was taken away from her family due to the abuse witnessed by neighbors on numerous occasions. Nora is a playful happy pup but because of the abuse she can be quite shy and cower around quick movements. Because of her age we would like to put Nora in a home where she is not left alone all day.  Nora likes both cats and dogs. If you can offer Nora a safe and loving foster or permanent home, please fill out an application and contact the person at the bottom of her page. Nora is looking forward to a new beginning and a happy ending.
