Hopper Hopper is our newest girl and she is lucky to be in rescue – narrowly escaping death at an animal shelter after being abandoned. You may wonder what she is doing on a Boxer Rescue adoption website. Well – this cutie became the favorite of all the staff at the shelter where she spent over three weeks. She was well past the “maximum term of residency” with no adopter in sight. Due to her extremely sweet nature and excellent temperament – the shelter staff just could not bear to kill her. They called everyone they could think of begging for help. They even called Boxer Rescue with their sad tale of “a dog with maybe a little bit of Boxer in it” needing assistance. After meeting this dog – we too could not allow her to be put to death for lack of an immediate home. At the shelter Hopper was exposed to lots of other animals. She met cats, rabbits and dogs and was fine with them at all. She was actually a bit afraid of the cats! During her temperament test she met a young pup and was very motherly towards him. We feel this is a dog that could fit into almost any household – except maybe those with young children as we have no background history on her. Hopper is special for another reason as well. She either was born with a birth defect or suffered some injury to her front legs. When moving faster than a slow walk – she hops – hence the name! She travels with her front legs moving in unison and can run, do stairs or anything else she wants to in this manner. She appears to be in no pain or discomfort , but we will be having her examined by another Veterinarian to determine if there is anything that could or should be done for her. She also needs a heartworm test, and she needs to be spayed. We will post an update on her condition as soon as we get a report from the Veterinarian. Hopper’s Foster Mom writes: If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an online application first. Then e-mail the contact below.
