09/03/03 - Update and new pics

When Waldo came into rescue so many months ago he was a diamond in the rough. I am happy to report that after many months of training he has emerged as a sparking gem!

For the last few months Waldo has resided at a boarding/training facility in Connecticut where he received help to successfully overcome his earlier dog aggression. He is currently spending 5 days a week in doggie day care interacting nicely with over 30 dogs at a time. Waldo is a favorite of the staff and they often take him to the park for additional one on one attention.

Waldo is ready for his forever home.  His perfect home would be in a situation where he would continue his education, get plenty of exercise, and plenty of the lovin this guy deserves.  Waldo has worked very hard to get this far... We think he is a winner and so will you!

Email us if you have the right stuff for this great guy.

04/22/03 - Waldo

Hello my name is Waldo.....remember me? I am once again looking for a new home and I am temporarily living at Karens k9 Care, a boarding and training facility in the Philadelphia area. I have not had a lot of social interaction in the early part of my life, so these folks are helping me to develop some manners. I do very well with my leash walking, sit and down stays. I wait at all doors and for my food. My favorite command is the "place". I like to sit on my place and chew bones. For the most part, I do very well one on one with my trainer, but still have a lot of excitement and energy when I meet new people. However I am getting better day by day.

It really helps me to get out and run and go for long walks in the park. I am very athletic and have lots of energy, so I really need an active home. I can jump 3 feet off the ground like a spring when I am really excited! I also like to mouth feet and hands in play. I am improving, but because of that reason I would not be good with young children. I am working on behaving myself around other dogs. I do not even notice dogs behind fences or in a crate, but when I see a dog on a leash I do not know how to greet them without scaring the other dog. My trainer is working on helping me to be calm and well mannered with all greetings, but it is really hard because I want to play. We still have a long way to go, but they are hopeful I will be able to interact well with other dogs in the future.

Thank you for listening to my story and I hope you can appreciate all the hard work I am doing to find a home. I really like women and have an endearing spirit. I trust the person who adopts me will be a good leader committed to continue my training which will help me interact appropriately with people and other dogs. I am anxiously waiting for my new family to come and bring me home.

1/19/2003 Waldo

Yesterday, Waldo took a giant step and went home with a wonderful person who is going to work with him to help him become the perfect companion we believe he can be! He is still very food aggressive, and doesn't like other dogs (or cats), but with kindness, positive training and consistency, he may soon be able to call this his home. Good luck, Waldo - we know you can do it!

12/15/02: Update

Waldo is a young dog who has apparently had little or no interaction with people and dogs during the early months of his life. He is a happy, eager boy, and a total food hound in need of training. He's aggressive in the presence of other dogs, and shows a tremendous prey drive if he sees any cats, squirrels, etc. in his travels.

Waldo is what we'd describe as a "project" dog... one who needs a seasoned boxer owner, with no other pets, and no children or grandchildren.

He is smart, and has demonstrated an ability to learn, but will definitely need more than the occasional training session to get him to understand things like house manners, walking on a leash and meeting people.

Are you that Boxer savvy person Waldo needs?

11/07/02: New Pics

Waldo and I had a long walk today – boy, what a bundle of energy! This guy is non-stop action. I think it’s probably that he’s been a little too cooped up lately, but this is one high energy pup!

Waldo looks as though he has the ability to quite a counter-surfer if not watched, so he’ll need to be crated when his owner has to leave the house. He was still pretty wiggly when we took these pictures, but at least these are better than the first ones!

11/02/02  Here's Waldo - our newest addition. He was turned in by his owner to animal shelter, and luckily, we were there to meet him. We're not really sure how old he is, but he appears to be less than a year - probably full size, but all puppy. Waldo is friendly, wiggly, huggy and full of fun.

He doesn't appear to have had much training, and we couldn't even get him to sit for his picture (I'll try to do better next time!!). He loves treats, rides well in the car and that's about all we know. After we've spent more time with him, we'll be able to update this information.

Please contact us to adopt this sweet fellow - he's all goofy boxer fun, and would love a fenced yard to play and run around in.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an online application first.  Then e-mail the contact below.  Be sure to include your full name, city, state, and area code in the subject line of your message.
