Rudy

03/03/03 - Update Rudy is still with my family and I, and although we love him as our own we cannot have 4 dogs. This is super upsetting to us all since he is just the best dog we could ever imagine. It is even harder to believe that he has not found his forever slam bang home of his own. Rudy is a super dog. He loves all dogs. He is super playful and is always looking for a good time. He can be an escape artist. He always wants to go with you, and has his eye on the door at all times and he is super fast so he needs a home that is on the ball. He loves the car and sits on the drivers lap like a cat wanting to snuggle. He is super smart and looks to get attention but knows when to lay down on his bed and take a break. He can pull on a leash but with a halte or harness does great. He is only around 40 lb. so we carry him around a lot. He loves the attention. He is housebroken as long as he knows your routine. He will go in a crate if you put him there but only if you put him there. He cries but gets over it. I do give him a time out when we want to take a break from 4 dogs and 3 kids all going nuts at once. He can be left out in the home without doing damage to anything. The only thing he chews on are my kids toys. He loves dog toys but in my home its tough for him being the low man on the totem pole my male boxer chases him away from any toy he has. He can be tough on the little guy. He loves nyla bones and chewies. He plays with my 8yr old female all day. I think she thinks she is his mother and she is not always the most pleasant but she loves Rudy, its hard not to. You cannot take anything away from Rudy without trading. A home with kids that will understand this is a must. My 6 yr. old child and Rudy have sibling rivalry going on a daily basis. Rudy always steals his toys and I have to get him his own treat to release and he's fine with that. My 9 and 12 yr. olds know to get right to the treats. I think he does it for a treat? Rudy sleeps in a little ball curled on our king size bed along with Brutus our 12 yr. old rescued boxer. He is so snuggly. Rudy is a social guy, he's never met anyone or any dog he did not like. For a little guy that was picked up a few blocks away sitting in the middle of the road one night I can say he is the best. He deserves the best home. Only the best will do. please fill out an adoption app for him. thanks 11/24/02 - Report from Puppysitter, while foster Mom was away... We were considering adopting Rudy, but with 3 dogs already, we wanted to be sure he would fit in with our family before we made such a huge commitment. Opportunity allowed us to dog-sit him while his foster Mom went on vacation. The day after Rudy arrived we found out that I was pregnant, to our surprise. It will be our first so we knew that having 4 dogs and a new baby would be too much. But since we dog sit regularly for friends and family, we didn’t mind keeping Rudy anyway. I happened to also be dog sitting our nephew’s Basset Hound during this same time frame, so Rudy stayed for 14 days but with the Basset here too, we had 5 dogs in our house for 10 days. The day I brought Rudy home, he was quite nervous and tried to escape out of every door in the house. It only took a few hours and some undivided attention for him to realize that we were okay and he became much more comfortable. We are so happy that we got to know Rudy so well during this time. We are also sad because we have really bonded with him; he is a total love-bug and if I were not pregnant, he would have found a permanent home with us. All three of my dogs are certified therapy dogs; we visit elderly and ill people at nursing homes, hospitals, etc.; and I feel that with a little direction and maturity, Rudy has potential for therapy work (which I don’t say about a lot of dogs). Rudy loves our 3 dogs, especially our female, and also the Basset. They all played great together. Rudy lives to run, he is faster than all 3 of my dogs. I think because he knew he could outrun them, he would instigate all the other dogs to chase him around the yard. Rudy would make a fantastic agility dog, and I know he would LOVE doing agility. He got a real kick out of trotting around carrying 3 foot branches in his mouth. Inside, he loves playing with all of the “Kong” toys and the “Galileo” bones. He did have a few accidents in the first days but they stopped and otherwise, Rudy does not seem to have any destructive behaviors. He is not a nuisance barker; he did bark sometimes but it was at a strange noise or it was instigated by one of my dogs. Rudy is an all-around great dog. Due to his unknown environment prior to being rescued, Rudy should be with a family who will shower him with love and attention so he feels secure and also be consistent and firm with his training so he knows his boundaries. He wants nothing more than to make his people happy; he is very responsive to the simple words “Rudy, no”. I hope Rudy finds a great home with people who adore their dogs as much as we do. He always wants to cuddle on the couch and snuggle in bed with us and because he is such a great dog; he deserves nothing less. 10/08/02 -New Pic 09/28/02 - Rudy is now neutered and has all shots and is on HW preventative. He is in tiptop shape. He has been with my family of 3 kids and 3 boxers for three weeks and is truly the sweetest little guy. He loves the kids and sleeps by them and watches TV with them. He loves to snuggle with a blanket and sit right next to you. He is super submissive with my dogs and tip toes around them. He is just looking to please. He is the best dog ever. Please help us help Rudy and open your heart and home. 09/07/02 - Rudy is a 5-6 month old boxer/terrier mix. On my way home last night we almost ran him over. He was standing in the middle of the street scared out of his mind. We stopped and put the window down, he came over to us, he was attracted by my 5yr olds screams. We opened the door after we saw his tail wagging like crazy and he hopped in the back with my three kids and we took him home. We called the local police and they had reports of him running on the streets all day. Not one person called looking for him. How sad is that. He is super sweet and loves the kids. He is super submissive and gentle. He loves our 3 boxers but is a bit intimidated by them. They are old and cranky. He is super dog. He is so agile and clever. He loves to play with dog toys and people ones. He is very affectionate and loves going for rides in the car. Rudy is the best dog and would make a great family dog for one that is active and loves to run and play. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out an online application first.
