5/1/01 - Barney is doing great at his foster home. He has completed his heartworm treatment, been neutered and is waiting patiently for his forever home. Barney's foster Mom has nursed him back to health and taught him how to behave like the fine young man he is. She will be moving out of state soon and we would really like to have him adopted rather than moved to another temporary home. Please consider this great dog for your home!
4/17/01 - Barney is feeling great and enjoying life again! He really needs a home with no other dogs as he prefers all the attention for himself. Some dogs he loves and others he hates - we really have not been able to figure it out. Barney has learned many new commands and is a VERY smart young man!
4/6/01 -
Barney has completed his heartworm treatment and is ready for his forever
home! He has also learned that the crate is not such a bad place and
is now perfectly happy when crated.
His foster Mom writes:
"I just wanted to give you a little update on Barney... He is house trained.
(YEA!!) and playing nicely with Mandy. He now shares Mandy's toy's with her :) They
love playing tug of war with a stuffed ghostie toy. He walks well on a Holt Harness, and knows sit (although if you don't have a
cookie for him he may pretend he can't hear you). He is such a lover and just loves to be cuddled at
night. He is such a love...who ever ends up with this boy is a lucky person...
"
3/9/01 -
Barney needs a foster / permanent home where he won't have to be alone very
much. He hates to be crated and we are working on making that more
tolerable for him. He is a sweet dog that gets very attached and loves
to be with "his person". He loves toys, especially ones that
squeak.
Barney seems to be fine with cats - basically just ignores them! While
he likes other dogs - he does not want to share his toys or people with them
- we are working with him on this as well.
Barney is scheduled to
have his heartworm treatments next week. He will need lots of rest and
quiet time to recover. Here are some links regarding heartworm and the treatment that
he will have:

quiet, cozy home to recover in!
3/6/01 - Barney is a handsome fawn male with natural ears and a docked tail. He was a stray that was not claimed by his owners. The vet thinks that he's about 2 years old, and he needs to gain 10-15 pounds, he's pretty skinny right now at 61 pounds. The shelter tested him for heartworm and unfortunately it came back positive. We will be treating this as soon as possible and he will be available for adoption after he recovers. Barney loves other dogs and everyone he meets! Because we have no background information on him, he cannot be adopted by families with children under 10 years old.
Here is what his foster home has to say:
He is a sweet boy, very lovable and follows me everywhere!! He wiggles and woo's like that typical happy boxer. We are working on house training right now, and I'm confident that we will have him potty trained in no time at all. He also needs to learn some manners, he dumps the trash anytime I leave the house, and he likes to look out the windows, so if you have blinds they need to be up (a lesson learned the hard way).. All of this is avoided though by putting him in his crate when you leave...It takes him a few minutes to calm down when he first goes in, but once he does he just sleeps.
Barney LOVES balls and stuffed animals, he will play with them for hours!! He especially likes it when I roll around the wiggly giggly ball for him. He is a very intelligent boy, he learned sit and stay in one day. He pulls on the leash when walked, but when he is on a harness it's not as bad.
Over all Barney is a WONDERFUL dog, he just needs to get accustomed to living in a home and he needs some obedience training. If you are interested in giving Barney a great new home, please complete an online application and email the contact listed below.
