| Follow Up - Buckett
We adopted Buckett on Memorial Day 2001. She was already 8 years old when we adopted her. We were looking for a female that would be a companion to our 6 year old male Akita, Keyoto and 12 year old male
Chihuahua/whippet mix, Mickey.
Buckett came into our family and made it her own on the very 1st day. She took right away to
climbing on the furniture and sleeping with us in the bed. Keyoto was a very sick dog and we were a
little unsure about how Buckett would handle his seizures. We didn't have to wait long. He had one the very 1st night she was there. Buckett was a complete lady. She moved away and waited while it was happening and we cared for him. After it was over she was concerned about him and spent a little while sniffing and licking him to make him feel more secure.
Buckett managed to win us over heart and soul. She quickly became the queen of the house.
On July 3rd, 2002, the time came for Keyoto to cross the bridge to the otherside. It was a difficult time for me and my family, to include the dogs. Buckett took the role of comforting me each day. She would lick my face, arms and legs. She would lay with me as often as possible.
Not long after Keyoto's passing we went attended the 2002 Boxer Bash. We had a great time and made many friends dog and human alike. Because of the love Buckett has brought into our lives and the friendliness of the Boxer Rescue community we decided to open our home to fostering.
So far we have had 3 lovely ladies spend time in our home. Maybe it's her calm personality or the wisdom of being a senior lady, but Buckett always plays the caring loving mom to the younger dogs that come our way. She has been very accepting of each one of them. She also lets them know when the horse play gets to be too much.
I love her so much. She is a huge part of our lives. She even goes to work with me sometimes. Not just anyone can join the military at 8 years of age, even as just a mascot, but she has.
I wouldn't trade her for anything. The love an older dog gives is just as wonderful as a puppy, except without all the potty training.
Buckett has a home with us until it's her time to join her brother Keyoto on the otherside. Until then, her job is going to work and helping to keep the
foster children in line.
