All of us at NBR would like to welcome Barbara Pepin and her unit back
from Iraq. Please read Barbara's heartfelt "Thank You" below:
I want to take a moment and thank all
the NBR people and the visitors to the Website who took time out of
their busy schedules to show their support of my soldiers, my unit, and
myself during my deployment to Iraq. I received many packages,
letters and photos from fellow Dog and Especially Boxer Lovers.
All the letters, cards and packages
were greatly appreciated. I tried to write back to as many people
as I could. I know I was not able to write and personally thank
everyone who wrote. However every single one was cherished.
We had a wall of pictures that were sent to us, along with pictures of
our own animal family members back home.
My unit returned to the USA returning
to the 5 states we were formed from, Connecticut (which included
soldiers from Massachusetts), Maine, Puerto Rico, Alaska and Tennessee.
One of my happiest moments was when I walked through the door of my home
to many Boxer wiggles and kisses. After sixteen months of being
separated my babies remembered me in seconds and that was the most
wonderful feeling in the world. I was welcomed by them back to the
family and I once more felt complete. It made me think of how our
four-legged friends must feel when they are welcomed into a foster home
and begin to receive the love they so badly need and deserve.
Especially how it must feel for them when they are finally placed in
their forever home.
I miss my military family that I grew
to love over the last year and a half, but I am grateful to be home with
my family members, both 2-legged and 4 legged. I can not wait to
be back helping NBR in any possible way.
Once more thank you to everyone who
took the time to share with us their thoughts and pictures.

We
at NBR, believe that a Boxer is just about the perfect
friend. However, he or she will demand a lot from
you. They'll rely on you for nearly everything;
food, water, shelter, protection, training, exercise,
grooming, veterinary care, and of course love and
companionship. While it is important to choose the
right Boxer for your needs, it is equally important to
ensure that you can meet theirs. You must prepare
for their arrival, and make them a well-mannered and
welcome member of your community. The
responsibilities of being a guardian of any dog are
great, but the love and friendship you'll receive in
return is priceless.
Purchasing any of these items supports animals in our rescue
tremendously, please consider donating today! Thank You!

These SIBLINGS NEED YOUR SPECIAL PRAYERS
Max
Gus
Tizzie
Matilda
Scooby
Update -
8/20/08
THE PUPPIES GET BIGGER AND STRONGER EACH DAY
Max, Gus, Matilda and Scooby have been doing so
well that they were able to be spayed/neutered.
Tizzie on the other hand is still experiencing
intermittent diarrhea and the doctor felt it
would be best to wait until her GI issue is
resolved before scheduling her surgery...
The dogs have been moved to foster homes in CT
and they have been enjoying playing with their
foster siblings. Everyone has fallen in love
with these little charmers. The pups have
gained weight, are growing in leaps and bounds,
and have great appetites.

stories....
The
beginning...
We received a call from a woman who was referred to us by the
Emergency Hospital in her town. Her boxer had a litter of five
puppies who are now nine weeks old and, after receiving their
inoculations one week ago, they were diagnosed with the deadly
parvovirus.
These puppies are in varying stages of the
disease.
Max
and
Tizzie
are in the worst condition. When they arrived at the hospital,
the had high temperatures, were depressed, lethargic and vomiting.
Matilda and Scooby
are also very sick but their symptoms are not yet as intense as Max
and Tizzie's. Gus
is doing well but its only a matter of time before his symptoms
emerge.
We were given a three
day treatment estimate for ONE (1) DOG at $962.90 !When
you multiply that by five we are looking at some serious
fund-raising to pay for their medical care. This is if there
are no further complications.
Once
again, we need YOUR financial help, and the puppies need YOUR
prayers.

story.

A LIMITED PAST…AN UNLIMITED FUTURE

Mack is a two year
old bulldog who came into our rescue program
because he needs
expensive surgery on his ears. His family
was not able to afford the cost of treatment
so they were opting to take Mack to their
local shelter. We could not let that
happen.
We were told he will
need a total ear canal ablation which will
entail removal of both ear canals. This
aggressive surgery is required because
Mack’s
chronic ear infections went
untreated.
Please help
with the cost of Mack's medical bills
which is estimated by TUFTS to be over
$3,000. Mack may not be a boxer but he
still deserves our help.

Gulliver
A Crushed Jaw Did Not Break Gulliver’s Spirit
(Before)
(After)
A
State Trooper found a young boxer we named Gulliver cowering in the
bushes on the side of the highway after he was apparently hit by a
vehicle and left to die. The officer coaxed him out of his
hiding place where he had taken refuge. He scooped Gulliver up
and gingerly placed him in his cruiser; he immediately knew this
poor frightened boxer needed emergency medical attention.
The doctor at the
animal hospital examined Gulliver, stabilized him, and
determined that he would need to be treated by an orthopedic
specialist to get the best care........

Gulliver

Winslow (ADOPTED)
HAPPINESS FOR WINSLOW THE MIRACLE BOY
This fortunate dog has reaped the rewards from the kindness of
humanity. Our thanks go out to everyone who has followed Winslow's
story and contributed kind words, much needed prayers, and generously
assisted with his excessive medical expenses which have taken a toll
on our medical fund. I'm sure you will agree with us that he was
worth every penny.
The bonus to this happy ending is that Winslow’s wonderful foster
family have fallen in love with him. They have requested that he
become a permanent member of their family, and we are thrilled.
Welcome home Winslow!!!

THE BEGINING...
Flown On The Wings Of Angels...Winslow Needs Your Prayers
BEFORE:
Winslow is in critical
condition and he is in the intensive care unit at Tufts University
Animal Hospital.
He definitely
needs your prayers. When we first received the call about Winslow we
understood that his leg was seriously fractured (apparently hit by a
car), he was abandoned by his family, and had not received medical
attention for two weeks. We immediately arranged to have Winslow flown
to Massachusetts where he could receive the best medical care
available. As soon as we saw him we were shocked by his condition and
could not help but cry. When we arrived at Tufts Animal Hospital it was
apparent that Winslow was in bad shape, however we were not prepared for
what the doctors discovered upon their examination.

Please Help! There is
no better way to show your compassion for our fur
friends than to foster a Boxer. All our foster
homes are full and dogs are waiting to come into to our

The Adoption Process
Boxers and
Applicants are not matched on a first come, first served
basis. On average, it takes between 1 week and 3 months
to adopt a Rescue Boxer, depending on your personal
circumstances and flexibility.
For example;
If you are looking for a young female, who is good with
other dogs, cats, and small kids, please know that yours
will be a hard application to fill.
We get over 100
hundred applications a week, and we place about 40 dogs
per month. Matching Boxers suitable for placement
with younger children, other dogs, cats, and special
needs, yours and theirs, increases the application
review time and adoption time.
We hope you
feel that the right Boxer is worth waiting for.
