This dog has been adopted.
6/26/00 -
Laverne is now known as Liberty!! Her new family writes: "We are the new adoptive family to Laverne. I just wanted to let
you know that her first nite with us went well. We put her in the crate at bedtime and she was fine until morning.
She is showing some curiosity. The kids friends are marching in and out and she greets each one with a little tail wag always making sure that her new friend,
Justis, is not to far away. She and Justis went for a short walk last nite and she did very well. She ate well this morning and so far has not had any accidents in the
house (hurray!!!!!!). She is like a little sponge for all the hugs and kisses she's getting. We're going to put her through yet another name change-we're going to call her Liberty "libby". So we have "Justis and Liberty "Libby" for all!"...I'll keep you
posted... she has an appt. with the vet on Thurs........:) "
Pictures will be posted shortly...
6/8/00 - Laverne will be going on a trial visit on 6/25. Until she has a chance to meet the other animals in the home, we will continue to accept applications.
6/4/00 - Laverne
was picked up as a stray in New Jersey several weeks ago. She is a
petite brindle girl with natural ears and a docked tail. She currently
weighs only 38 pounds and needs gain at least 10 - 15 pounds! The
shelter estimates her age at 1-2 years old. We have had her spayed,
vaccinated, heartworm tested and she is on preventative.
During her spay surgery, Laverne had some difficulty breathing and the vet
performed laser surgery to open her nostrils. They feel this may need
to be done again in the future. She is also being treated for a severe
case of ear mites.
Laverne is a very shy girl who wants to be loved by people - but just
doesn't fully trust us yet. She gets along great with other dogs and
REALLY perks up when in their presence. Because she is a former stray
with an unknown background, she is not available for adoption to a family
with small children.
We are working with Laverne on her house breaking and general house
manners. It appears she may never have lived in a home before.
But she is a smart girl and is catching on quickly.
Shirley and Laverne met at the shelter where they shared a run.
Ideally, we would like to place them together - but this is not a
requirement. If not adopted with Shirley, Laverne does need to be
placed in a home with another dog.
