- Hello, I am happy to report, Maggie & Tanner have found their 'dream
home.' Maggie and Tanner had a 'impressive week' as their Mom informs
me daily of their activities. Tanner decided to let himself out the first
day at home, lol. He pushed his new dad out of the way and explored the
front yard, lol. But came back with no problems. Maggie lost her 'obey Mom
command' while going crazy for the smell of chicken. Shortly after she and
Tanner raided the garbage. Only to follow up the next day with the
'decorating garbage' look for the entire house. Not to be topped with the
next days adventures of chocolate tasting, lol. To freak their new Mom out,
the 'kids' ate a box of chocolates :0) Mom called the vet and was assured it
wouldn't kill them, but still nervously watched for any signs of
sickness.
Even with all the 'joys' of the new kids, Tanner and Maggie's new Mom and
dad say nothing negative about their angels :0) I am overjoyed to report
that Karen (their new Mom) has said, "Christina, you can give it up,
they are not coming back." :0) Another home made a little furrier
:0)
1/14/01 - UPDATE: Maggie & Tanner have been adopted! They where adopted to a very nice couple who lived in NJ. There were several families who had inquired about them. They are a lovely couple and we wish Tanner (big buddy) & Maggie (Magpie) the best of luck in their new home with their new Mom & Dad.
1/7/01 - Just
wanted to update you on Tanner & Maggie. They are both doing fine, and
have adjusted well to couch life :0) Maggie and Tanner were tested well with
people, I took them home over the holidays to my family, with only having
them three days prior to leaving I was a bit concerned but they came through
with nothing but flying colors. These guys are GREAT! They are 100% LOVABLE.
Maggie has either "gotten over" the aggression or just learned to
love my Boxer (Kayla). As you'll see with the updated photo, this is now my
"terrific trio." Maggie & Kayla, run, play tug o war, and
wrestle together as though they have been friends all along, Tanner sits
back, occasionally throwing in a paw here or there. Mostly he's the strong
silent type, LOL. They are a nice pair and have shown great improvement in
socialization! . They no longer "attack" the door when someone
comes, but they are still good guard dogs and let their presence be known.
They have gained some weight since being here, they needed it, and there
muscles have began to "lessen." They no longer look like Pit Bulls
on steroids, they look like Boxers. Well, that's alll folks will keep you
posted as they visit the vet on next Thursday. PS My "brat"
(Kayla) is the one on the end with the tail :0)

- Tonight I was "given" a pair of Boxers. I went there
expecting to only take some photos and pass the word on, however, they were
packed and ready when I walked through the door :0( I was kindly
told..."we can't keep them...here, take them." So, I did.
They are a brother & sister team, raised together for 5 years. The
female, Maggie, is a plain fawn and is spayed. She also appears to be dog
aggressive, but that may just be the result of stress. She loves people
though and she's good with my 3 year old daughter. I believe there can
be progress made in her "aggression" problems. She has been
introduced to my female and was fine with her until she (my Boxer) jumped to
play. She then began the, what I call the "defense move." She
snapped and we pulled them apart. Later however, my daughter let my boxer
out of the bedroom and she came running into the living room, and Maggie
just looked, not a defensive move or aggressive snap. So, I believe, there
is HOPE!
The male, Tanner, is a flashy fawn and is neutered. He seems "other dog
friendly" but if he feels trapped he will snap to get away. He has been
around both my Boxer and my rescue, Brutus (German Shep/Rottie Mix) and was
fine until they both tried to "walk over him". He is SUPER
LOVEABLE and adorable. He too is good with kids. They have both been sent to
obedience training and know commands by voice and sign. Tanner is a bit
stubborn though :0) The family said they were getting rid of them
because their shedding is causing their child to have "asthma." As
I heard the story originally they were getting rid of them so that they
could get a puppy.
They are delightful dogs and I believe they have just had a HELLISH life.
When the owners handed me their shot record they said there was a note, and
I assumed they wrote a note about the dogs. However when I got home I saw it
was a note from the 2nd owner talking about the first owner and
relinquishing the dog to these, the third owners. Both of these guys are
underweight but extremely muscular. I pity these babies for the life
they have lead. I can see in there face that they wonder what I am going to
do with them, and I tell them they are safe and they don't have to worry.
They just have to lay on the couch and try not to poop on the floor :0) I
don't ask much, LOL. I would prefer they are taken as a pair, I think
between the stress of moving AGAIN and then being separated would be too
much on them.
Please complete the Foster Home
Application if you are able to care for Maggie and Tanner until a
permanent home is found, or complete the Adoption
Application if you are interested in adopting.
