1/7/00 - Update from Missy's foster home: "Missy is an absolute doll and a joy to have around. She is extremely shy and takes quite a while to warm up to people. She loves and trusts me now but is still somewhat wary of my husband - whose is really trying to befriend her. When we picked her up from the shelter and for the first couple of days in our home she had to be carried - she would not walk on her own. Then she started to crawl around but would freeze at strange noises. It was a very happy occasion when she first wagged her little nub! Now she runs around the house and plays with the other dogs but is very alert to strange noises or where my husband is and will jump up on the couch with me if she is scared. Thru all of this she has been very sweet and never acted at all aggressively. Yesterday I took her for a car ride and she just kind of huddled in the back - she really is going to need lots of time to come out of her shell. But it is very rewarding to watch her progress! She adores the other dogs and really will do much better going to a home with a friendly, outgoing dog.
She will need to go to someone with tons of patience and love. She is crate trained and housebroke but will put her feet on the counter to see what I am doing - I really don't think she spent alot of time in a house. She also has no sense of people stuff vs dog stuff. She'll get down off the couch and come back a minute later with a glove or shoe! Of course she gets no correction other than removing the object and replacing it with an appropriate dog toy. At this point we are working more on building her confidence with people than anything else.
Twister has gone on to his new home, which has helped Missy come out of her shell even more! She is such a puppy! Loves to play and wrestle with the other dogs."
12/28/00 - Missy is an adorable 1-2 yo brindle female. She came into rescue 3 weeks ago with her three week old pup Twister! They had been picked up by the Animal Control Officer for wandering and their owner never claimed them! When she first came in she was so scared that she refused to walk – no matter what. She had to be carried everywhere. Now, she runs around the house playing with the other dogs and sleeping on the couch! She is eating well and gaining weight by the day – but will always be a fairly petite girl.
She is a wonderful mother to Twister and does not mind sharing him with people or other dogs. Missy keeps a watchful eye of Twister’s activity but seems to trust that he is safe with us. Now that he can walk around on his own, she doesn’t seem very worried about him. She loves to go outside and run in the snow – often coming in with a white face!
Missy has visited the vet and is now up to date on shots and tested heartworm negative. She will need to stay with Twister for a couple more weeks and will be spayed as soon as she is physically ready. She would love a home with another dog and lots of human attention!
