11/22/99 - Niki is a wonderful boxer, whom despite the turmoil
she has gone through in the last two weeks, manages to maintain a bright and outgoing
attitude.
Niki was abandoned by her owners of five years at the City Shelter just two weeks ago. Her
papers stated that the cause for the owner surrender was due to a new baby. This excuse
sounded somewhat believable, until we met her. Not only is she a friendly warm spirit who
poses little harm to anyone who treats her right, but she is also quite obedient, as well
as housebroken.
When Niki was taken to the veterinarian to be spayed, we found out that she was ridden
with mammary tumors. These tumors appeared to be the result of birthing her previous
litter. Boxer Rescue decided that this little 45lb. flashy fawn deserved a fair chance to
prove herself at a new home and decided to proceed with the two necessary operations to
have the tumors removed.
We are happy to say that all the tumors have been removed, and she is doing great. Niki
now has a clean bill of health and after a few more days of rest at her foster home, she
will be ready for adoption on November 27, 1999.
Niki has become very fond of her foster mom, Lynne, and loves to spend time curled up next
to her feet just relaxing. However, don't let her complacent attitude fool you, Niki is a
very vocal girl who enjoys talking to everyone, and believe us, she has a lot to say. She
also enjoys playing with all of her foster brothers & sisters, and yes, even the cats.
Looking at Niki today, it's almost impossible to imagine that she had undergone surgery
just days ago. That little face is just filled with life and love, and that is all she
needs in return from a human companion, lots of tender loving care.
