Petunia

Adopted 3/27/02

2/26/02 -  Petunia is doing very well in foster care. She is a very sweet, gentle dog, but she is also mischievous and energetic. She loves her foster sister and every dog she meets. Although a bit hand shy when meeting people, she couldn't be happier than when petted and sweet-talked. With her natural tail, her boxer-wiggle is quite an event! She has met several children of different sizes and seems to do well with them. One of her favorite things to do is just rest the full weight of her head on you while she is petted.  She is excited by her foster-cat-sisters, and completed fascinated by them, so she might do better in a home without cats, although when she gets
close, she just wants to play with them. Her house-training is coming along very well and she is close to perfect.

On walks, she prances and holds her tail in a curl over her back.  She is delightful to watch because she is so obviously excited to be outside with a breeze in her face. Sometimes she gets overwhelmed with all the sights, sounds, and smells and just freezes, but with coaxing and encouragement from me and her foster-sister, she realizes she is ok.  She loves to run and
when she gets revved up, she runs as fast as she can. She still has puppy coordination, but when she gets all her feet going in the same direction, she is fast indeed!

The pictures do not do her justice. Everyone comments on what a good looking dog she is! She has an amazing face, and her soulful eyes hold more self-assurance and trust with every day that she spends in a happy home. She does best when she is near people and dogs, so that she does not feel isolated.  She has lots of love to give! In a home with another dog to reassure her, she will be a wonderful companion.

2/11/02 - Petunia is a ten month old female boxer that has spent most of her life in a boarding kennel. She is doing great in foster and is learning the basics of being a puppy. She loves other dogs and has to go to a home with other dogs. She does not seem to mind the foster homes cats.  She is being housebroken and is coming along well. She loves riding in the car and sometimes does not like getting out. Her personality is coming out more and more every day. She is very playful and loves picking this up with her mouth and shaking them. She plays tug of war with her foster sis and has discovered how to get on the couch. Petunia has started to learn how to go up stairs and likes playing in the snow when she has her doggie coat on. She is learning to walk on a leash. I think she will be fine with older children.
